Session 52: Wayward Druids Report

General Summary

26th of Haelynir 1524 Continued     At the manor Caramella greets Karl, Fargrim and Erin with concern over how late everyone is for dinner. She updates Karl and Fargrim on the Succubi and their behaviours. They have taken their meals in the sunroom as Caramella was not fond of their inappropriate behaviour at the table.   Xeldarix has not come downstairs since Lily put her to bed earlier that day. The group enjoys the dinner with Karl stealing the occasional piece off Erin’s plate.   Afterwards at 9pm Fargrim heads to bed while Erin and Karl go to their room.   At 10pm Karl sets alarms around the manor before reading for two hours and heading to bed. He does try to contact Lily but sadly gets no response.   27th of Haelynir 1524   It's a cloudy day from looking out the window and warm already. At 7am Karl wakes up to notice one of the wands on his bedside table trembling slightly when he wakes up. He whispers the incantation for mage hand, since Erin is still sleeping, to summon the spectral red hand and have it pick up the trembling wand. The wand stops trembling when picked up but then Ash's journal starts instead. At this point Karl wakes up Erin to tell her about the odd occurrence.   There is a very faint shaking coming through the furniture, but not enough to cause individual items on the table to shake like they are. Erin suggests they search the house. She will check outside while he checks downstairs and gets Fargrim. After casting mage armour on himself.   After knocking loudly on Fargrim’s door and several attempts, Fargrim eventually wakes up. Karl messages Erin and finds out the house is the only thing experiencing the shaking. Fargrim and Karl go downstairs to check on Succubi in a cuddle pile. They are accused of shaking the house. They plead innocent but are happy to rock the house with people if they want. Karl and Fargrim come to the conclusion it must be Xeldarix and rush back upstairs to check on her.   Xeldarix is in her room off of Lily's upstairs. A few things in Lily's room are shaking. Xeldarix is not awake. However everything but her bed in the room is shaking violently. Karl runs in and puts his hand on Xeldarix’s shoulder to try and shake her awake, but she reacts but flinches and pulls away, sobbing in her sleep. Fargrim notices her earring have been turned on, which means she can’t hear them. Karl resorts to tapping Xeldarix’s forehead. This wakes her, but she’s now screaming in panic.   Karl casts prestidigitation to conjure an illusory falcon in his hand that he waves in front of her eyes. Xeldarix's screaming stops as she stares at the birds. Breathing heavily and everything that is shaking stops. Karl sees Friend on the floor and quickly picks it up to give to Xeldarix. He’s able to convey with his hands that he wants a mental connection with her. Once it’s established, Karl apologises for scaring her.   Xeldarix says she is scared and asks for Lily, but they don’t know where she is. Xeldarix can’t sense her either and is very unhappy with the whole situation. Eventually the earring are turned off and Xeldarix starts to follow Karl around as he suggests they get some breakfast.   Before going downstairs Karl goes over to the window, opens it briefly and sticking head out for a moment then closes it and returns to the group.   Downstairs Caramella is fussing around the kitchen as Erin comes in from outside and the group enters the kitchen. Karl takes the time to study his spell book while Fargrim tries to contact Lily. Unfortunately he is not successful.   Caramella starts to cook some chocolate scones for the group. Karl gives Caramella 100 gold for house funds. The group discusses their plans for the day. Karl will go to the mage guild with Erin while Fargrim stays around the manor. Fargrim distracts Xeldarix from Lily being missing by wanting to see her painting of Friend.   Upstairs Xeldarix and Fargrim talk about the first time they met and what Lily had told her about it. They return and the idea of Xeldarix trying to contact Lily is brought up. Xeldarix tries, but is not successful. When scones are ready the group eats and goes their separate ways.

At 8am Fargrim goes to see Uqaviel. The situation with Lily is explained to him. During the conversation Fargrim lets slip some of what Lily had told him about her research, which displeases Uqaviel that this information has been shared. Fargrim offers his assistance and Uqaviel is sceptical of the offer. Uqaviel tells him a little about the circumstances of a colleague not serving Haelyn faithfully and how his faith is not blind faith. Fargrim once again says that he is happy to listen if Uqaviel wants to talk and Uqaviel says he will think on it. Meanwhile Fargrim takes Xeldarix outside to climb the tree.
At 8:30 am Karl and Erin arrive at the mage guild and go up to see Master Barnes. She allows Karl to continue copying from her spellbook but says she has a lecture about innate magic vs learned magic coming up at 9am and will be unavailable for an hour. Karl wishes to attend the lecture and it is allowed. During the lecture Erin changes into a Brecht version of herself to sit with Karl.
Xeldarix and Fargim spend some quality time together. He tells her the story of Alexis. Xeldarix has many questions and is given much to think on as Uqaviel comes outside to talk to Fargrim.   Uqaviel reveals he is questioning his assignment with Fargrim. He’s not a guardian or watcher. His purpose was about ensuring balance up until a century or so ago. Fargrim can see a connection as before Xeldarix’s injury her issue was balance with her two personalities. Uqaviel takes this into consideration and explains he was removed from the heavens by a trial of his own peers for a crime he didn’t commit. Haelyn has not answered any of Uqaviel prayers in exil and only spoke to him for this mission.   Fargrim returns to Xeldarix to find her worried about who she used to be and the possibility of not liking who she was. Fargrim advises her the best he can on this. They sit together for half an hour more before coming from the tree.   Fargrim tries to find some books in the library but after looking for about an hour he can't find anything. Doesn't help when Xeldarix randomly pulls whole shelves of books off. He gives up and spends an hour reading books with Xeldarix. They end up talking about Lily and the bookstore. Xeldarix tries to ask for what the word bookstore looks like so she can keep Lily away from it in future but Fargrim doesn’t understand what she is after.   At lunchtime, Caramella comes in to see if anyone wants lunch. She and Fargrim have a chat about her life experience and some of her previous work places. Fargrim tells her if she has to, she is welcome to take the house fund and leave if she is in danger or doesn’t feel safe. There would be no hard feelings.   Fargrim spends the rest of his time reading a theory book about celestials and fiend while Xeldarix paints.
Karl spends four hours after the lecture finishing copying his new spell and asks Master Barnes about the copper egg. She reveals that it’s a sleep prison. She can either try and remove the prison or someone with True Sight can see into it.   At 2pm Karl heads down to the club room for the apprentices. June is waiting there for him and is annoyed he was not here at midday like he said he would be. She updates Karl on the property and what they found out about the demon. June has a theory about making an object to help detect Fiends like the faceless one that can hide in human flesh. Karl is interested in investing in the idea.   Afterwards they head back to the manor for 3pm.
When Erin and Karl return, Fargrim checks in with them to see how their day went. Karl shares what he learned. Seeing Xeldarix staring at the door and looking sad, connecting that she misses Lily, Karl offers to try and contact Lily again. This time it does work.
The third sword is very plain and simple looking. The Faun does not need to connect Lily with the sword as it can speak. It’s a bit of an interesting sword. It seems to lack some basic understanding about basic concepts, but is almost brutally honest at times. It claims to be able to dissolve what it hits if someone gets a good hit in. All in all it makes Lily uncomfortable.   As she steps away she receives a message from Karl concerned about her since she’s been gone a day. However for Lily it has maybe been an hour or two at most. She promises to return soon and makes her trade with the Faun. She gives up the walking stick, sphere and journal from the creator for the two books she wants and the sword known as Blackrazor. She also requests to be dropped back in Brechlen. The Faun nods and Lily leaves, only to fall into the water of the bay near Brechlen.
Xeldarix shows Karl her paintings she has been working on. When Karl shares that he got in contact with Lily, Xeldarix gets very excited. Fargrim suggests that Xeldarix try contacting Lily herself now someone has been successful. Xeldarix tries and in the end makes her nose bleed and Karl is quick to grab her to try and make her stop. She gets really upset and Karl hugs her.   Karl tries to explain that it shouldn’t hurt to use her abilities and hurting herself is bad. Sometimes okay in an emergency only. In the end after a short chat Xeldarix is shown the copper egg. She does her best to explain what she sees. “Person. Like Lily. Small. Dark clouds. Lightning.” When questioned what ‘like Lily meant’ she responds with “Like Lily. Like Erin. Woman?". Karl brings up that Caramella is also a woman and Xeldarix gets excited. "Caramella! Small." she tells them.   This summons Caramella as she goes to see if the group needs anything. She offers to tutor Xeldarix as she finds out more about her condition and needs. Fargrim requests tea and biscuits while he reads. Karl heads upstairs with Erin. He identifies the scroll as “Find Greater Familiar” and spends some time with Erin before reading some more of Ash’s journal.     Caramella has taken Xeldarix into the kitchen to help with dinner. At about 6pm there is an excited squeal and a pop as Xeldarix disappears. Fargrim is slow to remember the dangers of teleporting, so he goes up to tell Karl who quickly jumps into action to make sure nothing came through. Thankfully nothing had and Caramella was just confused.
Lily looks up at the pier from the water and turns into a dolphin since she has several heavy packs with her. As she does, an excited Xeldarix teleports to her. She squeals under water, which is not great so Lily quickly prods Xeldarix to the surface, concerned that she might not be able to swim or breath under water. Xeldarix does cough up a lot of water that she reports tastes bad.   Lily swims them over to the ladder before turning back into herself. They climb up and Lily convinces Xeldarix to hide her wings as she notices they are out in public. Lily receives a sending message from Karl and reassures them she has Xeldarix, she is back and they will be at the manor shortly as they start the trek back.
Karl and Fargrim help with setting up dinner after Lily confirms everything is okay and will be home shortly. When Lily and Xeldarix arrive, the groups fill each other in about what happened over Lily’s missing day. Xeldarix is eating the crackling from the roast pork while people are distracted, but thankfully Caramella saves most of it from her. They decide to look into the Wellmore Farm again before bed after Lily has a short rest. Karl contacts Steve to see if he can join them, but he can’t due to the short notice.
At the farm the paladins are keeping watch at the various entrances. The group takes the donkey entrance and goes down to identify the mirror first. Fargrim has cast True Seeing on himself. Karl did try to dispel the rune on the locked door but was unable to do so. Karl finds that it takes the reflection of those who last use it to tell lies and sow doubt and deceit among groups. Fargrim smashes it and is defended by the screams that come from it. Fargrim heals himself to fix this and the group heads off to look at the maze room that had the goblin wolves in it.   In this new room Fargrim can see a door covered by an illusion in the North wall and notices one of the white tiles sitting funny. While Lily goes to investigate the door, Fargrim goes to check out the tiles. The group only uses the black paths and when Fargrim lifts the tile to find a bag, he does notice that under the white tiles are spikes.   Lily struggles with the door and in the end Fargrim uses the Goblin key since Lily can’t see the door to unlock it. Eventually everyone is able to make it through the door. The hallway is long and winding, smelling of ooze. Karl mentions it reminds him of when Xeldarix teleports.   After following the winding corridor they see two left turns. One leads to a purple and black shadowy area while the other leads to a chest that only Fargrim can see beyond an illusion wall. Karl tries to dispel the purple area that is clearly a way for other creatures onto this plane, but is unable to do it. Lily decides to play a prank with the wand of pyrotechnics, but the sound and flashes of fireworks draws in a creature from beyond the purple and black veil.   There is a ting ting sound as metal contacts stone on pinpoint legs. A metallic spider runs through the portal, it’s shell glistening under the only distant light source from Karl as he runs back at hearing the fireworks. Seeing what is there he immediately summons his Arcane Hand to keep the creature from getting out of the corner of the hallway. Erin runs back with him and summons a water whip to attack it from a distance. She manages to trip it but notices her whip did no damage.   Lily summons her newly attuned sword and tells Xeldarix to attack it with her zappy magic (guilding bolt), which she tries after Fargrim uses it successfully, but she isn’t as successful as him. One of the creature’s eyes glows green as a beam shoots out at Lily. It hits her but she’s able to resist it’s effects as it attacks the hand keeping it in the corner. Karl changes tactic and attacks the creature with his magical hand, but misses and uses his wand of magic missiles. Erin stays by Karl, ready to attack if the creature gets close.   Lily sends some flames at the creature while summoning her imp spirit. Fargrim continues to gilding bolt it successfully while Xeldarix fails again to hit it was the same spell. The metallic spider grows irritated at the attacks and a purple beam strikes Lily from one of it’s eyes as it continues to attack the hand. Karl keeps using his wand and fist to damage the construction while Erin continues to play defense. Lily wants to end this quickly, trying to blight the creature but it doesn’t seem to have any affect on it at all. Fargrim continues to light the creature up with gilding bolt and Xeldarix accepts she can’t hit it and waits for her moment to run in to hit it instead.   The spider continues to send another beam of purple energy out, this time hitting Xeldarix as it fails to attack the hand in front of it. Karl continues to use the magical hand and wand to attack while Erin stays at his side defensively. Lily is sent into a rage as she cast Guardian of Nature when she sees it attack Xeldarix with it’s beam. She moves in under the magical hand to attack it. Fargrim heals some of Lily’s wounds as he sees how hurt she is when she runs forward to take the spider head on.   Xeldarix follows Lily’s lead and attacks the spider with the shortsword that had been returned to her by Lily earlier that day. The spider sends another force beam at Lily while trying to hit her with it’s forelegs. Upon failing to hit her with it’s legs it turns tail to run, but Xeldarix and Lily cut it down before it can get away. The Blackrazor is very unhappy to be denied a meal since it was a construction and ensures Lily knows that it is displeased.   Karl looks over the creature, curious as he’s never seen anything like it before. He discovers a seal of the Matron Mother around its neck on a ribbon with a strange pearl attached to it. This brings back too many memories of Cassandra for Fargrim, so he goes to look at the chest he saw. Karl tries to dispel the portal again, but is unsuccessful, so instead he uses the magical hand to squish the spider, which makes all sorts of goo and fluids come out of it. They all leave to go and look at this chest. Lily hangs back and successfully dispels the portal.   Fargrim finds a staff and an orb of light in the chest. Lily double chests the chest to find not one, but two false bottoms. The first layer had wands but the second had a shield.   The group heads back to the manor to identify things and get some rest. Karl sends Steve a message to let him know the group is safe.
