Session 41: Beyond the Great Bay Report
General Summary
15th of Haelynir 1524 Continued Lily and Erin have a private conversation. They discuss trust and how they can better build up trust. Erin agrees that for a few days Lily will work with her and Karl will work with another officer. Afterwards Lily goes to get some rest but notices she feels unwell. She does a ritual and discovers she has filth fever again. She cures herself and starts to search the ship. She finds that Alexis is sick. Lily cures her after a chat and Xeldarix is back in charge. She goes to lay down while Lily goes to see Karl. Karl was talking to Wave while on deck. They discuss this relapse and go to talk with Erin. Karl realises Erin is still rather upset with him. She offers to talk about it privately once they're done here as Lily tells Erin about the disease and the fact they have not been able to check on Enna. Erin gives them the key to Enna room so they may check on her. Going to Enna room they discover Enna has collapsed onto floor, there is blood and vomit on the floor as she lays unmoving and unconscious. They quickly rush over, Lily healing her while Karl does what he can to clean her up. Once they have her on the bed they go to get Fargrim and Ten so a check can be done. Enna seems to be okay, but requires rest. Concerned about the disease being given to the crew, everyone from the island needs to isolate. Lily goes to her room, while Fargrim and Ten discuss matters. Karl goes to see Erin. Karl and Erin have a heart to heart, however it is interrupted by Ten and Fargrim. Fargrim explains the need to have people that went to the island and Erin agrees that this can be done. Meanwhile Ten asks Erin to examine her since she used her blood powers on the island. Karl waits outside with Fargrim while Ten starts to examine Erin. Their wait is interrupted by noticing Wave and the crew are charmed. The ship was sailing towards a large rock. They immediately spring into action. Karl messages Erin while Fargrim tries to get the crew to respond. Harpies make demands of sailors lives to allow them safe passage, but the deal is quickly rejected. Erin quickly joins them on deck and hears the commotion and Lorenah is summoned by her Captain to help. Using some quick thinking and shape water, Lily is able to prevent the ship from crashing as they work together to kill the harpies. The largest harpy was blooded which, affects Karl and Lily when it dies. Their bloodlines change as a result. The death of all the harpies snap Wave and the crew out of their state and they are quick to get back to what needs to be done. It's 2pm. Erin goes and has her examination finished with Ten before starting her isolation with Karl. Lily and Fargrim talk in their cabin with Xeldarix. Overnight Fargrim dreams.
The boat bobs up and down as it does. It’s a calming sway as Fargrim lies in bed. There are the soft sounds of the crew moving around the boat. Normal for this time of night. They’re pretty quiet but it’s not perfectly quiet. Which is reassuring to hear people working hard to keep the ship running. Like a well oiled machine, which would make Ten very happy, Fargrim imagines. Lily is sleeping in her hammock, one leg hanging out. Xeldarix has curled up in her bunk and after about an hour Fargrim heard Simone get out of her bunk and climb into Xeldarix’s bunk. Karl is… up in the Captain’s quarters for whatever reason. The soft sounds of the ship and waves lull Fargrim to sleep. Many hours later, Fargrim finds himself waking but he has no idea why. He listens, but can’t hear anything. As he rolls over in his hammock, dismissing it until he sees the room is empty just as he closes his eyes. In a double take, Fargrim sits up a little too quickly and falls out of the hammock. Rubbing the back of his head as he sits up, he blinks and confirms that Lily, Xeldarix and Simone are all gone. “Where did they all get off too? Am I late for training or something?” Fargrim wonders out loud as he gets up. He dons his armour and leaves the room. As he was donning his armour, he notices he can’t hear the usual soft sounds of the boat. Heading down to the mat area, Fargrim can’t find anyone. Normally no matter what there are people around here. Playing cards, relaxing, trying not to disturb the sailors who are sleeping. Fargrim quietly opens the door to the crew’s quarters, but finds it empty. Had they reached a port or something and no one thought to wake him? Heading up to the main deck Fargrim sees that they are clearly not at a port. There is no land and the sails have been shredded. Hurrying his steps, he heads for the Captain’s quarters and knocks loudly on the door. “Captain?” After a few moments of no reply Fargrim opens the door but there is no one here. Small bits of panic start to rise up in Fargrim. Where is everyone? Then, the sound of wet footsteps is heard behind Fargrim. He turns but can’t see anything. Just a puddle of water a few steps behind him in the room that wasn’t there a few moments ago. Fargrim hurries out of the room and back out onto the deck casting Protection from Evil on himself, claiming loudly to the ship that "This dwarf doesn't go down that easily!" There is the sound of a strangled giggle behind him and footsteps running behind his back. "Show yourself, plain. No more secrets here!" Fargrim demands. There is the sound of a thud as something hits the ground on the forecastle. Looking up, Fargrim can see an arm dangling off that deck between the rails. He runs up the the stairs to the forecastle looking for the source of the arm. At the top Fargrim finds Lily laying on the forecastle with her head malformed like someone had tried to smash it. This makes him scowl, gritting his teeth and holding back tears, "Face your end, villain! In Haelyn's name this injustice will be righted!" The door leading below deck slowly opens but Fargrim can't see anyone there. Casting light on his shield he bravely barrels his way down below deck. At the bottom of the stares Fargrim finds Karl has met the same fate as Lily as he lies on the floor. There is a trail of wet foot prints heading towards the group cabin. Fargrim is in a full rage, kicking in the door to the group cabin. The door opens to a cave which is strange as Fargrim knows he's on a boat. "witchcraft..." Fargrim says with hesitancy Instead of going inside the strange room Fargrim chooses to go back to Karl, see if it is possible to raise dead on him. As Fargrim turns to look back at Karl, he finds the body is gone but there are bloody foot prints going back up the stairs. Fargrim follows them cautiously. They go onto the top deck where Karl seems to be kneeling over Lily's body on the other side of the boat. This feels Fargrim with such relief. "Karl, you're ok!" Fargrim runs over to Karl Karl looks up at Fargrim with dead eyes and he rips lily's ear off with his teeth and is chewing on it. Their heads are both still deformed. "oh... Oh..... OH.... " Fargrim takes two steps backs, unsure of what to do for a moment. As Fargrim steps back he prepares to turn undead. Lily reached up to take Karl's hand to chew on as Karl watches Fargrim step back. Fargrim as if by instinct prays to Haelyn to turn these undead from him. He watches as his friends crumble to dust and are destroyed. There is the sound of wet foot steps behind Fargrim. "there's still one dwarf drawing breath. The memory of my friends shall fuel your defeat!" Fargrim tracks the footprints to the best of his ability as he turns around. Not expecting to see the cowards, he is taken by surprise. As fargrim turns around a giant hammer hits him in the head and he wakes up. The sound of a hag cackling is ringing in his ears.16th of Haelynir 1524 Erin and Karl are woken up early by Ten, requiring assistance with the bad weather. Erin tells Karl to go back to sleep as she goes to help out on deck. It's the 16th of Haelynir. As the party wakes up they can hear the sound of heavy rain and the ship is moving a lot more to indicate rougher seas today. It's colder today, making everyone reach for extra layers. Fargrim wakes with a start, falling out of his hammock. Lily confirms no one is sick. Training is directed by Wave as Erin is out on deck so the group does some yoga. After training Lily and Erin head to the crows nest, Karl learns some knots with Wave and Fargrim does his standard checks with Ten. About noon the boat suddenly lurches to the side and the boat gets ready for another fight as a Kraken crawls onto the boat. He has five undead priests with him. Over the coarse of the fight they manage to banish him permanently and kill his priests, but not without the boat taking damage. Working together they plug the holes but the ship needs to make for a port. They decide to turn back to Kvigmar instead of risking a smaller port in Drachenward. Erin goes back to the crow's nest with Lily, Karl goes back to helping Wave and Fargrim returns to his duties with Ten. Being out in the elements Erin, Lily and Fargrim gain a minimum of one point of exhaustion. At the change of shift Erin sends Lily to get some rest. Karl and Fargrim are released to also get some rest. At the officers dinner, they ask Simone a question. "What has recently been drawing extraplanar beings to the Krachenauricht?" Answer: "These visitors have taken charge of their own power as they come to this new plane. A recent change has drawn them here as the Lord Who Watches builds power and influence here. They can sense a change is coming, they don’t know what but they will either be here to bring about this change or merely witness it." After having disturbed the officers, they are left alone to have some private discussions. During this time it becomes apparent Karl and Erin have an intimate relationship. After dinner most of the group goes to get some rest. Karl goes up to the crows nest to create a dome so Erin will be sheltered during her watch and Karl will spend the night up there with her. Unfortunately this rest is interrupted by nightmares and knights of a different sort to the usual. Karl tries to teleport away when it becomes apparent they are here for him. However he didn't prepare the right spells for this today and Xeldarix doesn't want to take him away as she would be unable to do it if it was needed. Being unable to get on the boat, they attack the boat itself. It becomes apparent the boat will sink. They have a plan to escape. Lily tries to have a back up plan to get to those who can't be teleported away. However, in the end everyone is taken. A quick scavenge of items and as soon as Lily returns, they are taken to Jarvis' tower by Xeldarix. Unfortunately, this has had disastrous consequences for Xeldarix as she is grievous wounded. A wing torn off, her head caved in, her chest deformed and most of her bones twisted and snapped. Jarvis gets most of the crew out of the basement and uses his magic to move Xeldarix upstairs. Ten and Fargrim do what they can for her, but the injuries are extreme. Enna picks up and takes care of Lily who has been affected by Xeldarix's state. Karl and Erin get the crew settled before returning to be near Xeldarix, getting some rest. 17th of Haelynir 1524 In the morning, Lily wakes and knows how serious Xeldarix's condition is with what she can feel. She does some magic to try and give Xeldarix more time. Once woken by Lily, Karl contacts Steve to plead for help. Steve agrees to meet Karl in Poden to discuss the idea of help. Steve arrives and Karl breaks down, telling Steve everything including his crimes that led to this chain of events as he makes his pleads for Xeldarix's life. In the end Steve agrees to help, but his disappointment in Karl is made known. Steve does what he can, helping to fix Xeldarix's body as each member of the group plead with Xeldarix to hold on and come back to them. For now, she lays there sleeping peacefully and in no pain, as the group hold on to her.
