Session 2: Into the Temple of Crooked Sleep Report

General Summary

After finding some disturbing evidence in Urulay's abandoned residence and Maul-Moir helped with the burial and sanctification of the bodies, the group gathered their supplies to go rescue the villagers from the ruins of the Temple of Crooked Sleep. Notable among the missing were Rodoria, the person who helped gather everyone for the original venture, and Nillian, the dwarf who Maul-Moir helped usher into his second life.   After a short search in the hills, the group found the shadowed remains of the former monastery, and carefully made their way into the dungeon through cracks in the earth. Strangely, the Crooked Hills seem to hold just under the thick layer of dirt what appears to be large strips of compacted, pelletized metal.   Inside, the group is struck by what seems to be humming rising up from the ground. They find a mirror that reflects a strange, barren landscape with blurred landmarks and narrow streaks of light. To the north they find a sealed door and several skeletons that rise in shaded form in response to the group's counter-attack to a swarm of snakes.   Inside the sealed room is an array of strange symbols, ostensibly used, the group determines, to augment divination magic in some way. They likewise find a hidden door but decide to move to open it later. F   Further into the temple they find the remains of some kind of battle, in which they find the bodies of several of the goblins and two corpses similar to the ones they found in Urulay's home, albeit more advanced. On close examination, it is discovered these corpses are wights that have had tek inserted all throughout their bodies.   Nearby find a sealed door that Realyn opens with some quick experimentation, revealing an abandoned library and a still-burning furnace. Through this furnace lays yet another room, in which they find a throne, a strange black sphere resting above a plate on the ground, and several dozen more skeletons, arranged this time in sitting position along the wall.     Maul-Moir finds a hidden stairwell, leading down to what seems to be some kind of wrecked storeroom with a vast array of materials littered around the room, including no small amount of busted tek. A quick search finds some of which that is still in working order, however, along with some other treasure.   Leaving, they are confronted by three of the sleepwalkers, unsure of what to make of the group exiting the room. They question the party, the words coming slow and distant, trying to ascertain their reason for being there. The goblins say they serve something called Safeguard and claimed to be working to stop some great calamity.   They think if the party can speak with Safeguard, they would be able to understand, but none of the group seems interested in what is implied would be required for such communication (a strange horn growing out of your head is not exactly comforting).   The goblins expel a strange coppery gas at the group, which puts Maul-Moir in a deep sleep, which instantly brings him dreams of a great empty plain in which rise a forest of massive stone geometric shapes. The group awakes him, and we end as the goblins retreat further into the complex, where there will surely be more surprises awaiting the group.
