20th of Valatur's Stead, Gionata Moore

We have encircled and infiltrated a camp, 2 guards, one man, one woman. He has a name: Golan Nerr. They share sup . . . soup. I am hungry. He embarrasses his tongue with Neuman and Van. Thirsty bastard. Like his campfire, Golan's loudness doesn't conceal his camp whatsoever. . . . He protests much. . . . Must be a businessman the way his jaw flaps. Squirming words from a mealy mouth. His guards are a weary duo for resting in an empty thick of forest. . . . I smell of piss. I inhaled his piss--the guard's. He walks the forest--didn't find me (unlike his stream). . . . Everyone's got to piss. Van struck; we ambush. We win. I returned the guard's golden flavor. We manacle our prey. Wagoned them. Drove back to monastery. Along the way, Van and Neuman told stories of gods among the stars--lies, clearly. When we arrive, I try to give the female advice. Her best interest is to heed it.

 

21st of Valatur's Stead, Gionata Moore

We are speaking to Headmaster Zoryn Kayaelst and his direwolf . . . undead direwolf. Hungry. He speaks of war and greater transcendence over life & death (where soul survives beyond confines of celestial purpose). He says he takes no joy in his responsibilities, but takes to its greater purpose: forestall, if not prevent, the culling (slaughter) of humanity by deified asuras. We are dismissed. We are to set ourselves to study and training to hone the deft hand, the keen eye, the clear mind. Hungry.
