Session 15: A Forgehammer Flyby

General Summary

The team is hunkered in a doorway between a rock and a hot place. Leaving the flamethrowing gargoyle rock garden and hiding in a corridor the team takes a short rest and talks strategy. The eventually have Magma open the Dragon door and see a large room with a floor of lava. The room seems to have an anti-magic field from doorway to doorway across this room. Magma notices a lever on a pillar. Jarris doublechecks it and pulls it. A bridge forms across the expansive room connecting the farthest causeway where it was separated. Seeing more pillars with levers, Magma runs and jumps to the middle causeway to try another pillar lever. A second bridge extends and the 3 Dragon Scales on the first walkway can now reach a second pillar with another golden lever.  They pull it, causing a bridge to connect the middle pillar to the causeway at the exit door. Magma can now walk into that room. It is a cool and comfortable room labeled "Greybeard".   It has 2 long tables for reading, 4 walls with shelving, a small font in the corner, along with 2 doors on the southern wall. Magma opens the southwest door, and it is dark and shadowy with a lion's face on it. He opens the southeast door that says "Arri" on it, and it is a frosty bright lit hall. He takes a book out of the room to show the team the contents of the library. It disintegrates in his hands upon leaving the room. They want to get to the library/Greybeard room. They decide to speed through Broggnax's Eastern Chamber past the gargoyles. They decide to try to go through the center room. It is labeled Forgehammer. The room is not even 4 feet high and has columns imbued with magical shadows. Harool casts Daylight & they investigate. It is apparent that the floor has triggers and pressure plates and when activated a blade either comes from the ceiling or floor. Marro tries to activate one to see what it does and if it retracts. He presses down and the blade comes out of the floor and rips at his wrist. He loses one Constitution point and goes unconscious. Harool thinks it may be the Blue Whinnis poison. He understands that Marro will need to have his health restored with strong magics, but should be able to wake soon. He and Jarris try to investigate the rest of the room. Harool makes a flight for it and goes to the end of this room, getting knicked by a blade at the end. Soon, Marro wakes. Harool does Radiance of the Dawn to get rid of the shadows for good. Marro and Jarris take turns whipping the broom through this room. Magma comes out of the library, holding a dining table above his head, exclaiming "Guys, I tried reading...It isn't so bad if you skip all the lame parts." They use the table as a makeshift walkway and the group goes to the library. It is covered in books all regarding the Iron Codex. As they start looking around, Marro deduces that the books are preserved with a spell for this room and that removing them from the room may causes them to age & wear out. Marro notices a small water font that has a moderate enchantment magic on it. He touches it, smells it, and takes a swig. He remembers in the Sunless Citadel the cool fountain that healed him. As he starts to turn to the group, but falls before he can speak. There is an Ivory and Obsidian door at the back of the Greybeard room. Can the team awaken their sleeping necromancer, and which door will they choose?
