The Trial of Isabel Twoorb Report
General Summary
Bound in the central area of the camp, Isabel knelt in the dirt as she answered questions, hurled insults, and even went as far as to assault some members of the party. None too impressed with her attitude, Martiri and Auxi struck her with hands and hilts of swords. Through the insults and blood, Isabel admitted openly to the murder of Forthwind Keenseeker, claiming he, like all half-orc and elven scum, should be wiped from the planet. She claimed to hear about the Cult when someone had slipped her a note at an upscale party in Gudwep Park, the noble district of Edstow. She claimed that killing Forthwind was the first step, and the second would be a clandestine meeting with an unknown contact somewhere in the foothills near Culvella Run. Surprising nobody, she also claimed openly that other politicians in Edstow were corrupt, and likely involved with the Cult. Atiel received word that the code breakers in the Gold Roses had been able to translate the book that Maitar Stewar had given to them. Much of the book contained information about cult rituals and practices. However, there was a reference to "The Blind Night", marking it as a day for a great sacrifice requiring a pureblood High Elf for sacrifice. Unfortunately, the Gold Roses had not come upon any information as to when the Blind Night actually was. DAOMN set off with Isabel in tow the next morning toward Edstow. With tensions high and expecting resistance, they made their way to the city. However, no traps were to be sprung on the team en route to the city. They made their way to the guard district to exchange Isabel for Houghlen, who had been locked up for nearly 5 days. During their trip through the city, they spotted Heswyse Odakini Remyra Aluroe, screaming, swearing, and kicking at the door to an old building that she claimed was the local adventurers guild. Heiron Nymus assisted the gnome and broke the door open, revealing a dusty, cleaned out building. The interior bulletin board had postings from nearly 25 years before. Confused, and concerned about their payment, DAOMN offered to escort Heswyse to see the local Federal Treasurer assigned to Edstow, Cristen Hogeson. Heswyse expressed concern that Cristen held the position, as a field position such as Federal Treasurer is a transitionary position, and she was not pleased her old friend fell into a rut in this city.
I can't believe a noble of Edstow would fall so low as to murder a citizen. With overwhelming evidence to condemn her, as well as a confession, Caudacus quickly had Houghlen released and took Isabel into custody. DAOMN pressed the Sergeant of the Watch for more information regarding the city and its turmoil, as well as any explanation he could provide for the missing adventurers guild. He commented that having a guild presence would be incredibly helpful, but all the funds are handled through the Federal Treasurer. Convinced a dangerous situation lay ahead, Heiron convinced the Sergeant to provide cover for half of the party to enter Gudwep Park on official business, bypassing the hired personal guard of the city nobility. Heswyse had no problem entering with her official federal papers declaring her position. Half of the party met up inside the district and headed to the home of Cristen, while the other half went to Edstow Plaza to review the public records of elected officials. After a brief and tense introduction with the butler, the team was brought into a sitting room of the home of Cristen. It quickly dawned on Heswyse how far out of his expected salary Cristen was living. The lavish home in the high-end part of the city was far outside of what she described as a low-level bureaucratic stepping stone of a job. Most people only served the position for a year before moving onto bigger and better things. The truth was quickly exposed as the group pressed Cristen after their introductions, and the doppelganger that had taken his place made good his escape. The team chased the doppelganger into the plaza, but it had shifted forms and cried for help from the private guard. With some quick thinking from Lehiri and a strange discussion with a random person on the street, the plaza quickly filled with smoke, and the team was whisked away to a hidden basement. Lehiri was encouraged to slip back into the residence quietly to get to the bottom of this.
