Session 21: The Tree of Life

General Summary

  • The party need to go and find the tree. Although scheduled to go home, Keyah has asked Bonnie to stay following Pothos, so Bonnie asks if she may accompany them to the tree
  • When visiting Erdan he tells them he doesn't believe in the tree so gives them the successful duplicate of the snapper to prove its real
  • When returning to the pub, Bonnie has two quarterstaffs. She gifts one to Ander, requesting that he teacher her how to use it, so that she can defend herself while on the trip
  • The boys in the party buy a number of language learning guides to entertain themselves on the boat
  • When the party visit Erdan before heading off he admits that the conversation between Falin and Varis didn't go well
  • The party play a dice game that Lila invented before leaving. Everyone rolls a d6 and the person with the lowest number has to lie down until the host allows them to stand back up
  • Lila admits that she uses weighted dice, since this is a game she uses to get Prick to go to bed
  • The party head towards a port town to try and get a boat
  • They rent a boat
  • The party sail for a number of days. Bonnie gets them to chat and play games
  • They spend a good amount of time arguing with Dimitri, who spends the journey in the crow's nest
  • At one point the party were attacked by merpeople riding spider crab demons
  • Dimitri learned that they cut his crossbow string as a prank
  • Dimitri got a sending from 'S' who he revealed to be Sasha - the man who helped him escape from the gang asking him to see him in Oddstoke. Dimitri told him to meet him in Oldden
  • Pothos and Ander were not happy about this
  • The party eventually arrive at the Island the tree is fabled to be on. An elven woman helps lift their boat up. Before Dimitri can stop him, Ander gives the name 'Aramil the Nerd Smasher' to the woman
  • Dimitri explains he thinks they wandered into the feywild
  • The party run into a pixie called Sundrop, who tells them that Althea lives in the centre of the Island
  • At the start of the journey the party got caught up with an acting troupe (session 21.5)
  • Over the journey through the feywild, the party were having dreams of Lei, Raymond and Hastae getting killed. They messaged them and they were all fine
  • While travelling they notice they're being followed. Dimitri shoots at the bush. His bolt hits a small tiefling girl's shoulder. She stumbles and falls backwards
  • Dimitri rushes forward and heals up the wound
  • The child runs away. Dimitri wants to follow but Ander stops him
  • The next day they hear rustling again. This time Ander goes forward and speaks to her. The child comes again, wearing rags and an expensive looking necklace
  • The party try to get something out of her but she just keeps thumbing the necklace
  • Eventually Dimitri talks to her in infernal. She reveals that she needs help
  • The party first go to Althea
  • They go down. When Pothos touches it she goes into a trance. The tree tells her that she (the tree) is in charge of deciding where the god's healing magic goes, and that Pothos is the same as her
  • Althea reveals a dagger, decorated with ivy, to Pothos
  • This dagger has the ability to hurt or heal, depending on what Pothos wants it to do
  • The party go to the witch who Tear (the tiefling) needed help with
  • The witch tries to bargain with the party separately but none of them take her offer
  • They end up fighting. Ander is immediately targeted. Magic that is used to show his worst fear is used successfully against him, and he spends the majority of the fight in the basement. When he goes down Tear is there
  • Pothos and Dimitri fight at a distance from outside
  • Bonnie notices that Ander hasn't been fighting so runs to the inside of the house to try and heal him. The witch turns on her and claws her. She barely survives
  • The witch goes back in for a second clawing. When Bonnie holds up her hands in defence a cone of fire shoots out, pushing the witch backwards
  • This causes the witch to lose concentration, snapping Ander out of the spell he was in
  • He runs upstairs, pulls out his dagger, and manages to stab the witch’s throat, dealing the killing blow
  • The party decide to take Tear back to the material planes. Her mother gave her up for warlock powers so she has nowhere to go
  • During the journey back, Pothos contacted Hastae to make sure Oldden was fine, since she'd had a dream where it had been set on fire. Hastae says that Oldden isn't on fire
  • But she says that Oldden has been destroyed
