Session 4: Daggerford - On the Road To the Mere of Dead Men. Report
General Summary
As the party heads north among the freight wagons they see Daggerford in the distance, but first they have more pressing matters. In the sky they see a form heading their way. As it gets closer it keeps getting bigger and its quickly apparent it’s a rider on a blue dragon! The party runs for cover attempting to avoid death as the rider comes into focus, it’s that SoS (Sack of Shit) Mondoth. As the dragon and rider engage the party Martha steps out from one of the wagons and casts earthbind, enveloping the dragon’s wings in yellow strips of magic and sends it crashing into the dirt face first. Seeing this the party emerges from hiding and rushes the blue bastard "Get that fucker!!". Hooves is first on the scene and takes a direct blast of lightning breadth to the face and slumps to the ground bleeding out. Even ground bound this will not be easy. Most of the team focuses the blue dragon. Throwing every spell, sword and arrow they have at it. Wilbo disappears in/out of the shadows firing bolts at Mondoth. Several direct shots cripple the dragon and Hooves is stabilized enough to get back into the fight only to find the same fate awaiting him. A lightning nap is delivered for the second time, clinging to life. The party implores Wilbo to finish off the dragon but he ignores them, continuing to fire bolts and daggers recklessly at Mondoth, striking her several times. Lilifern goes bear form and smacks the shit out of the dragon, delivering the death blow. With the dragon downed and Mondoth wounded she drops her weapon and begs for her life, offering everything she knows in return. Party members question her and attempt to extract what they can. Wilbo paces back and forth impatiently. Mondoth conveys that Rezmir is who is leading the cult and is held up in a castle in the mire of dead men. The Mere is the domain of Voaraghamanthar (The Black Death), a large black dragon and suggests we stay away from the temple region because it is swarming with lizard folk and pissed off wraith. Convinced Mondath has shared what she knows the questioning party members motion her to leave. As she turns to go Wilbo strikes! Jumping into the air with his dagger drawn, he drives it into Mondoths eye with all of his weight, pile driving her into the dirt. Wilbo whispers something unintelligible into Mondoths ear as the life drains out of her remaining eye. The rest of the party is flabbergasted, who the fuck are they teamed up with? Before the party has time to sort out what just took place Sir Validir appears and tells them the cult has taken over Daggerford. There are some locals that are attempting to take the town back but have not been successful. Sir Validir hints that he will be back in a few days and 'whomever might' control the Daggerford is of no real concern and he would trade with whomever that is. He suggests we talk to Ontharr Frume at the Tit (The Best “Talk In Town”), if we are inclined to help. Before leaving he imparts a large shield with a crest on it, instructing us that if we are ever in Waterdeep we should show it to Lady Daggerford. The party rests up and recovers from the dragon fight. Wilbo can tell several party members (Especially Deo the Paladin) are uneasy going forward without an explanation of his execution of Mondoth. Wilbo shares that his entire family was butchered by the cult and he will not rest until those responsible meet a similar fate. They will never be granted mercy while he still draws breadth. The party is granted entrance to Daggerford as part of the caravan and immediately heads to the Tit. Ontharr is in the cellar and he explains what has been going on, their attempts to take the town back and their failures. Some SoS named Bog Luck is running things. Martha sends her familiar to scout the rest of the town and where cult members are positioned. There appears to be a 'warning' bell in the center of town, that will have to be dealt with unless we want to fight every fucker in this joint. Lilifern goes rat mode to inspect the bell. Lil-rat climbs the gong rope and chews through it, dropping to the ground with a thud. That takes care of that. She scampers off into a corner awaiting the party. Marthas familiar reports back that the bell is out of comish and the second part of the plan begins. Wilbo & Cher sneak into the sewers beneath the town. They take out several Kobolds but one manages to escape! Wilbo rabbit hops out of the sewer hole and caps the fleeing Kobold. The remaining team members shuffle into the sewers and combat rat swarms that emerge. Cher stays back in the sewer to loot a chest that was obviously a kobold trap. Who puts a treasure chest in the middle of a sewer? He avoids the main poison trap but is still swarmed by ravenous rats. As the party emerges from the sewer holes, Martha shoots acid at a nearby thug. The thug narrowly escapes around the corner and warns his buddy, a giant hulking ogre. Lil-rat appears and turns into Lil-DireWolf, knocking the ogre prone "Take that bitch!". T-Pain moves into range and ends the prone Ogre with one swift slice! Meanwhile a Kobold seeing this attempt to ring the warning bell. He looks dumbfounded as the clacker and rope sit in the dirt bellow. Wilbo lets a bolt fly true, splitting the kobold between the eyes. The rest of the town falls quiet, me need to move quick! The team regroups and prepares to assault the known meeting house of Bog Luck. T-Pain smashes the door in and Martha lets a fire bolt fly into the room. The few Kobolds on this level are quickly dispatched. Cher is the first up the stairs and dispatches some lizard folk bastard with ease. T-Pain is up next but is met by a DOUBLE CRIT and folds like a wet paper bag. As T-Pain falls the rest of the party clown cars into the upstairs. Wilbo hops around on tables and desks as others swing wildly at the cultist. They fall quickly leaving Bog Luck cornered and begging for his life. The party decides to dispatch him, the rest will likely flee Daggerford. The team dispatches him quickly. The party notices a map on the table showing that they are moving cargo by boat. The map indicates a few locations. The dragon hatchery. A castle in the Mere of Dead Men. And a town far north called Parnast. Wilbo drags Bog Lucks body into the street to show the others and they do indeed flee in fear, much to Wilbo's delight. Sir Validir returns not long after and congratulates us on our victory trading with us and handing over the treasure that was meant for 'whomever' controlled Daggerford. The party now prepares to follow the cult into the Mere of Dead Men.
