Session 37 - The Grand Ball Report
General Summary
44th Moonshine
In the morning, the adventurers spend a while preparing spells and planning for the crashing of Quinn's Grand Ball. As per Geoffrey's suggestion, they all go to Akio's place for further planning, meeting Sorfon there as well. There, they finalise their planning, before heading to the party.
At about 6pm they arrive. They meet Bohumil Janda. They go to the bar and meet Neff Blackwater and get drinks and food. The following interactions include:
- Elxis plays a historical wargame with Vabul Greensteel, tells him that he might be able to make game pieces for him.
- Elxis dances with Artin Firehearth.
- Elxis finds out about the Thalia affair from Wenner Balefrost over a game of Goldriver.
- Elxis plays a game of Goldriver with Kithri Hollowpot.
- Panser dances with Chloe Kroft, Aemilya Fallenbridge
- Akio dances with Aendro Silvergraft
- Panser meets the pimp Korlag Silvertarn who is taking a bath. A pretty strange man by all accounts.
Later, Elxis, Cel-Niana and Akio witness two drunk people making out and accidentally shattering a piece of old pottery. They see Quinn's art curator Lorak Summergale looking concerned, and use Mending to fix the pottery. They strike up a conversation with him.
The conversation goes on, and they agree to let Lorak give them an art tour around the entire residence. They learn a lot about Kotoxi art, and learn that Lorak actually knows where the fabled Amethyst Night Market is held and has bought items from it.
They invite him to get drinks at the bar, where the entire group regroups. Panser uses detect thoughts to find out that the Amethyst Night Markets are held at the village of Izoku!
With great fanfare, Aedarin Neliel of Cerian's Castigators arrives to the party, and later, Quinn Mistsplitter finally comes downstairs!
Later, Panser is passed by Eliza Wattlefield, who seems to recognise him! He uses detect thoughts and notices - Eliza has a memory, watching from a window, seeing Panser on the roof of a house with a group of adventurers including a silvery humanoid. This memory is from Greenroot - she knows who Panser is, and what he is responsible for.
Panser, in horror, goes to the bathroom and throws up.
Meanwhile, a drunken Lorak accompanied by Elxis and Akio all go upstairs, Lorak guiding them to Quinn's own private part of the house, showing them the art. After he's toured them around the art in the hallway, he goes to sleep under the dining room table of the Private Dining Room.
Akio uses the Reshape spell to lock the doors to this part of the house and to lock Lorak into the dining room. They ransack the hallway and Quinn's room for all the items.
This is when shit goes down. While they ransack, Panser uses Sending to them, and agrees he will create a diversion.
Panser goes to the music pit, casting Hypnotic Pattern. All but the leader of the band are put in a trance state. The music suddenly grinds to a stop. An enraged and annoyed Quinn begins to approach the music pit. The leader of the now-entranced band company, Orobok Dranatal, begs for mercy.
Panser uses Message on Quinn, telling him Dranatal slept with all of his wives.
At this, Quinn snaps. Almost everyone at the party watches in horror as Quinn orders his two guards into the music pit to slaughter the entire band with their halberds. Quinn himself, in cold blood, screams "YOU TOOK EVERYTHING FROM ME!" at Orobok, before slicing his head off.
He turns to the audience, proclaiming "THE DRANATAL BAND IS NO MORE!" He suddenly seems to realise what he has done and drops his bloodied sword. After a few minutes of terrified silence, he proclaims - "THIS PARTY IS NOW ADJOURNED."
Everyone, terrified, leaves the party, and Quinn begins to make his way upstairs with his two guards. The two guards outside of Quinn's private area leave to go downstairs.
Akio summons an iron block to block the door to the private area to buy some time. Akio frantically summons a metal chain, tying it to the bed in Quinn's room and throwing the other end out the window. The guards begin to barge the door open. Fighting against time, Akio climbs down the rope, dropping himself down a steep drop and hitting the ground unconscious with some injury. Elxis goes after, sending her mechanical snake up to help Cel down the chain.
Elxis then drops, managing to land alright on the ground. Cel is last, she manages to make it, but just as she reaches the ground and Akio is coaxed back into waking, the two guards reach Quinn's room and spot the three out of the window. Now Quinn and his two guards have seen Akio, Elxis and Cel-Niana.
But they use invisibility and escape to the streets, arriving at Akio's house all intact. They gauge the worth of all the art they stole. Panser arrives later, stricken by guilt, accompanied by XIV, who is not entirely understanding of the situation.
45th Moonshine
Panser slept in Leomund's tiny hut in Akio's house. The others all sleep here. Sorfon and Geoffrey are nowhere to be seen. Panser, Akio and XIV later head back to the Steelbeak, arriving at the Steelbeak in the late afternoon. Panser, on the way back, uses Sending to Ila - "Ila, wait for me".
Elxis and Cel go to the Blackspice Markets to sell off all the stolen art, save one of the sets of fine clothes that Akio kept for himself. They each gain 515 gp. They sell to shady people and known connections, making sure to keep in disguise to cover their tracks.
Elxis and Cel also arrive at the Steelbeak in the late evening.
