Session 39 - Journey to Atama Report

General Summary

64th Moonshine   As the shattered remains of the strange bony creature XIV killed begin to decay, Elxis uses detect thoughts on the bag that the creature was dragging around, and Panser uses detect magic. It seems nonmagic. XIV opens it and empties it out, realising it's full of decayed body parts.   Geoffrey takes the strange crown of bones that the creature had seemingly created. The adventurers return to the damaged steelbeak. Geoffrey seems enamored with the mask, despite it's disturbing magical nature, and tries to put it on! XIV rips it out of his hand, and Cel grabs it, runs up to the upper deck and tosses it into the ocean.   After that, Panser creates his magic hut and the adventurers sleep.   65th Moonshine   Akio awakens first, wandering the shore, trying to see if the crown washed up again.   The group spend half the day repairing the keelboat, taking the sail down and putting it in their bag of holding. After some planning, they head off to Huragu.   66th Moonshine   This day is spent travelling. While sleeping, Elxis uses her new ability to infuse magic into items to make her deerhorn knives into returning weapons and XIV's cloak into a "cloak of the manta ray".   67th Moonshine   The adventurers arrive in the morning, noticing the ruined farmland and dilapidated state of Huragu. They don't spend long here. They notice the skeletons of goblins hanging from a flagpole in the town centre.   They continue travelling.   68th Moonshine   At midday, the group arrives in the town of Visikin, which is in a similar state after the terrible storms and devastating rainfall. They notice cheering from the town centre - a wrestling match is on! A man called Rundilm wins a match of wrestling just as the group emerges in the town centre.   XIV offers to fight, which is met with surprised cheering. Rundilm seems happy to fight. The first fight, which is a wrestling match, Rundilm suprisingly wins, pinning XIV to the ground for six seconds, to rapturous applause.   The crowd, eager for more, accept XIV's offers for a second match. This time, XIV manages to pin Rundilm and win. Panser begins playing music, to inspire XIV.   Despite the rules of the game being to the contrary, they go for a third match. The crowd is going wild at this point. Rundilm offers to make it a striking round, XIV agrees. The battle is intense and violent, but eventually XIV defeats Rundilm, knocking him to the ground.   After the fight, and after conversing with the townspeople and learning Rundilm's name, the group come across a bartender - Rangrim Evermead. Rangrim invites them into his tavern. They learn about his history, his love of stories and adventure, and how he likes to make art.   They all get drinks and Panser entertains Rangrim with the story of Lorudan and the dragon wyrmling. They stay in the attic.   69th Moonshine   The group leave for the village of Egona, which they hear has been abandoned. And they are right. The only people in the ruined village, with it's flooded farmlands, are two villagers in heated argument.   After some convincing, they tell the two that Panser can grow the crops here. They are suspicious. Their names are Ella Sedlak and Benes Vavrus. After Panser uses a spell to grow a spot in the wheat to towering height, and after XIV and Akio fix a flooding problem from the nearby river, Ella and Benes take their harvest gratefully, and head to Visikin to sell it so they can live.   In the night, Elxis finishes the mechanical faerie dragon familiar she has been quietly working on.   70th Moonshine   After a short sleep, the group awaken, spotting deers on the fields which Panser has recently blessed.   It takes half a days travel to come to the familiar town of Licua - but this time, it is much worse off, and hungry refugees from Egona flood it's streets. Geoffrey has been seeming low affect since his encounter with the crown.   They go to the tavern, but find it crowded and out of drinks.   Next, they go to the house of the mayor. Seeing it is locked, Elxis uses his mechanical dragon to fly into the house, making itself invisible. When inside, he sees that the mayor - Umenorin Veranian - is having a heated discussion with a portly building contractor.    XIV knocks on the door, prestidigitation used to make him shine radiantly.   Eventually, Umenorin comes downstairs. He is instantly distrusting, thinking the group to be from a cleric's group called the Helping Hand. The group try to tell him; they are here to bless the farmlands.   To try and prove this, Panser uses his spell on a fern in the house, but it overgrows and knocks a chandelier off the ceiling. Umenorin, horrified, locks himself in the house.   So the group go to the nearby field, and Panser uses the spell to overgrow the bean crops. Umenorin sees from his window and hurries over. Finally, after more conversation, Umenorin is convinced to let them stay in the town and help grow the crops.   As Panser begins his work, the rest of the group go back to the Warmhearth tavern, XIV wanting to buy pastries for the starving. They are all out, so instead he goes to the Sweet Tooth, meeting Alani Marlowe. He buys 10 gp worth of pastries.   He then gives them out to the starving refugees. As a crowd grows, Panser plays an old song he learned in Valdur, a song said to make crops flourish. The crowd grows bigger. Elxis uses her new familiar to entertain the audience. XIV begins to heal people, and Panser infuses healing magic into his song.   A blind man comes through the audience, a man named Nhabeid Smartsong. To his surprise, XIV is able to heal his blindness, and the man runs away in euphoric hysteria.   After the song is finished, the adventurers sleep in the attic of the tavern.   71st Moonshine   The group leaves Licua, meeting the guard captain Bandid on the way.   In the afternoon, they reach a dirt path leading into Atama city ahead, seeing a convoy of wolf-chariots head inside. They approach the front, their weapons stashed away in the bag of holding. Cel'Niana decides to stay behind.   They are immediately spotted by the watchtower, though XIV uses the tongues spell (bestowed upon him by Panser) to talk down the goblins. There is a long exchange between groups of guards; and the adventurers are escorted into the city.   They are taken to meet the messenger, Evopa, who brings them to the great ruler, Motaakai. There is a cold and uncomfortable exchange, and Motaakai has the group led to the tuakana - the elders - who sit in the city agora.   They reach the agora and meet the elders, Iinoki, Waraki, Makharata and Kauri, to discuss how the goblins and adventurers could reach an agreement. Waraki and Makharata hate the humans, and all the elders call them "palefiends". It is a difficult conversation, but slowly, Iinoki and Kauri - the more tempered of the group - and even Waraki - begin to agree with the plan.   Suddenly, an enraged elder bursts in. It is Otawa. Otawa threatens to kill Panser and decries how weak the elders have become, and the tribe as a whole. He eventually storms off in a rage.   After that, Kauri tells the adventurers to go sleep in the wolfden - she will speak with Motaakai and reach an agreement. The group is escorted to the wolfden to sleep.   72nd Moonshine   The adventurers awaken after an uncomfortable sleep, woken up by a group of guards who rush them to the home of Motaakai. Motaakai is now joined by all the elders except Otawa, as well as a goblin who wears no mask.   They soon learn that this goblin is Aarkatus the messenger, and they learn their mission. They must escort Aarkatus, who carries a message, through the warfields where the goblins fight the orcs.   They must take the message to a city called Eutrakha, and somehow this message will convince the Eurokha tribe of Eutrakha to wage war on the orcs. Panser will also bless their crops. In return, the goblins will do as the adventurers and Iaidar wanted - blockade the main road out of Alduran.   Hurried out, Aarkatus leads the group out of the city and into the hills outside. He explains how in goblin life, everyone suffers from everyone, and that levels out. He leads them onwards, to the warfields.
