A Choice of Two Enemies Report

General Summary

Previously: Vellen's story
Considering the state of the two rival cults, it seems like the party could chase down Vellen's contact at Wayside Inn, or see what the Myrkulites have been up to in the abandoned dwarven fort of Axeholm. Considering the note said delaying them would be considered a success, they decide that Wayside is the more immediate concern. In visiting other friends in Phandalin, they discover that their inventor friend Kjarg Ironoath is passing through town with his journeyman apprentice, a young dwarven artificer, and is staying with the young carpenter Nars Dendrar and his family.
Kjarg gives Tharg the bulette armor he has been working on for the group, and performs a ritual for Anathema, calling to Dugmaren Brightmantle for a boon of invention, turning her dragonskin cape, her cloak of billowing and her ring of featherfall into Wings of Flying, a set of dimly-sparkly-grey, dragon-like wings that act as a cloak when not activated.
After hearing the story of the party's recent adventures, and their need to get to the Leilon area quickly, Kjarg is struck by worrying inspiration, and starts building a ramshackle flying machine which, he assures you, will get you the distance in mere hours. Throughout the night, Kjarg and his apprentice work on the vehicle, while the party make their plans with their undead and worg NPC companions, who will follow at a safer pace in the Fabulous Fancies caravan.

New Day
After ensuring they get a good long-rest, they board the vehicle with most of Phandalin gawking at the unusual spectacle.
