Session 2: The Dead that don't stay dead Report

General Summary

The group arrives in the peaceful village of Mistmere only to find that ... there aren't any obvious undead to kill. The people in the village look happy and busy. The market is bustling and people sell there wares from far and wide.   Though not all that glitters is gold. Eli hears from a Goblin merchant of undead that have attacked other villages on the local trade routes, though an adventuring group apparently handled those and received the reward for the dealings.   Meanwhile Gnimble started a rather hostile relationship with the local potion seller. Neither of them seemed rather fond of each other and after finishing the public accusation of fraud, Gnimble returned to his group.   To hear some of the local rumours they headed to the Pig's Blanket, the local tavern and inn. Syrene, the bar owner, served them with a smile, though that turned into an icy stare when the group started asking about people coming back from the dead. She gave them directions to Clark's Cool Clockworks but nothing more than that.   Said shop was a paradise for Gnimble ... and little more than an uncomfortable sleeping place for Eli. While Midnight, Eli and Cardboard Pilgrim waited in the front, Gnimble went to the back with Clark where he was able to stock up on clockwork parts. Additionally the gnome also managed to gather some information from Clark. The village was happy with the undead situation, because it started bringing some of their loved ones back. The first one to return was the local blacksmith, a man named Garner.   After paying for all the parts Gnimble collected his group and they continued their investigation at Garner's house and shop. THe blacksmith was currently working on a pot outside, hammering away on it. Eli, Midnight and Cardboard Pilgrim went on questioning Garner, who was fairly willing to give the group the information they were asking for.   Meanwhile Gnimble went on to find a more magical source to the strange occurences in this town. Using his trickery he found that some form of magic was being kept inside the house and with the help of Manny he discovered the source to be an almost empty bottle of something called M's Miracle Cure.   Armed with this information the party went to confront Alphonse, the potion seller, about this shifty bottle. After their previous encounter and the now rather hostile and partially even threatening behaviour of the party, Al wasn't willing to be the most cooperative of people. This eventually let to the guards calling over Stella, the local paladin and expert on interrogations. After casting a Zone of Truth, she went through her line of questions, leading her to the conclusion that all parties involved were to at least partially blame for the current conflict. Telling both off and suggesting for the party to avoid Alphonse from now on, she left them without any major punishements.   After finally calming down, but not having gotten any further the party was ready to retreat to the inn fo the night when Eli noticed that Alphonse had dropped a note with a useful hint. Apparently the merchant that sells the miracle cure is a man named Ouen and he would appear at Grand Market Day the next day.   The party rested at the Pig's Blanket for the night, only to be woken up by the sound of people being busy in the morning. The market in front of the inn filled with customers and merchants alike, one of them caught their eye. A man giving a promising speech on top of a cart to a mass of people that seemed more than a little fond of him.   After some ... hand issues ... the party managed to secure one bottle of M's Miracle Cure. While the group now had some time to analyse this liquid, Midnight's raven companion, Eclipse, was told to watch and if necessary follow Ouen, so that when needed, an ambush of the merchant could lead to bringing some light into this deep darkness.

Missions/Quests Completed

  • Undead Dead that don't stay Dead, currently undergoing investigation

Character(s) interacted with

  • Alphonse - apparently likes to drink a bit more than he should, owns a potion stall and seems to be liked by the villagers, is not the seller of the miracle cure and seems to be dealing mostly with herbal potion solutions, as well as some slightly phony potions sold to him by a merchant of the Redcloaks Merchant Guild
  • Gibbem - merchant Goblin, who says of himself that he never stays longer than a day anywhere, told the party about the strange things that happened in other villages along the trade routes
  • Garner - the local blacksmith and the first person to have come back from the dead
  • Stella - Mistmere's paladin and interrogation expert, believes Gnimble to be clever and quite skilled at ommitting the truth

Notes

The following rumours, true or not, were given to the party by different people in Mistmere:

  • People who have died returned after three days to their loved ones.
  • The first person who returned from the grave was Garner, the local blacksmith
  • Other villages on the local trade routes have been attacked by rabid undead almost a month ago. Adventurers who happened to come by, killed the undead and the villages have been peaceful since then.
  • A pack of rabid wolves or other rabid wild life have recently been causing trouble in the forest near the village. Hunters haven't been able to take them down yet and hunting any game has gotten harder due to the general air of fear in the forest.
  • The people of Mistmere are happy with the current situation and don't seem to be thinking there is anything wrong or bad about their loved one's returning to them.
  • The formerly dead are almost indistinguishable from the living.
