Session 3: Trade Experiences Report

General Summary

After having watched Ouen for a while and having stolen a bottle of M's Miracle Cure the party went off to visit Alphonse, the potion seller at his home. With the promise of never returning again Midnight managed to convince him to let them use his alchemist supplies to investigate the potion.   Being allowed that, Gnimble went to work. The potion seemed to be made of different types of herbs, some ingredients Gnimble did not recognise, as well as something that gave it a faint blue magical glow.   Armed with this information the party went back to watching Ouen, who after having sold all of M's bottles, went off to bring his horse into the stables just outside the village before turning back towards the inn to rest for the night. Gnimble, Pilgrim and Eli stayed at the farm to investigate the horse and the cart, while Midnight followed back after his loyal raven companion Eclpise, before joining Ouen in the inn for a little chat.   At the barn Gnimble searched the cart, finding a hidden storage compartment. At that time though, it was only filled with some pillows, a blanket and a bedroll. Having turned up empty handed the three decided to head back towards the village and the inn, searching for Midnight. On the way inside, Eli pulled one of his fuzzy objects out, a Giant Weasel, and told it to come and find him if anyone matching Ouen's description went on his way out.   Back at the inn, the group then found themselves staying in the same room as Ouen, where Gnimble caught glimpse of a chest exactly matching a spot in the hidden compartment he had found earlier. After having a chat with the merchant for some time, Pilgrim went back to the farm to keep an eye out there while the rest of the group lied down for a rest, only to be woken up in the middle of the night by screams from the outside.   The village, that had looked so peaceful throughout the day, was now being attacked by rabid undead under the light of the full moon. Without much hesitation the three started fighting the undead, one of which they recognised to be Garner, the friendly blacksmith. Not having had any choice, the group slaughtered the undead, while Pilgrim was rushing on his way back towards the inn, fighting equally well.   The group had to watch several times as some of the undead reassembled themselves again and stood back up to continue fighting them. Only after Gnimble thoroughly dissolved the creatures in his acid did they finally stay down. The one's bitten by those rabid undead watched their wounds with slight worry, though they continued with their mission nontheless. Only Midnight started feeling a little sluggish.   Threatening Ouen into submission, Eli convinced him to lead the group to M's hideout. And while him and Gnimble went off with their guide to get his cart, Pilgrim and Midnight went to inform the guards about the potential cause of this undead issue.   Having finished this part of their self found quest, they joined back up with the group and headed deep into the forest. Ouen led them to the ruins of an old keep, explaining again where exactly the guards always were before being allowed to leave - only with his share of the income from the cure though. Eli and Pilgrim generously gave their share to the remaining money back to Ouen, probably so the young merchant could build up a more honest life, while Gnimble and Midnight opened their endles pockets - or bags - to have them filled up.   Once Ouen was gone, and the ruins somewhat investigated by the cat of the group, they moved inside only to find the guards lying dead on the ground, missing several pieces and bits of flesh everywhere. The group hurried to the next room where a set of winding stairs let them down into what seemed to have once been a great wine cellar.   Not waiting to take the situation in first, Eli told whoever was in the room to surrender, only to draw the attention of every creature onto himself and the group behind him. Rabid wolves, zombies and another sickly looking cadaver went to attack the newcomers, not having been able to reach the gnome, hiding on top of the wine shelves very well.   A deadly fight broke out, almost costing Eli's and Pilgrim's lives, and almost taking out Gnimble as well. But the group persevered and survived, listening to Miranda's full explanation of the things that had transpired.   Miranda, who is the mysterious M, was a gnome alchemist, aiming to create a potion that could cure all illnesses - even death. He wanted to prove that gnomes were suprerior to all races, that only they were able to create things that lie in the hands of only the gods. He also realised he'd be able to make a rather lucrative business out of it.   As his first attempts turned out to be failures and not living up to his expectations, he wanted to seel them off as quickly as possible and as such hired small time merchants to sell his wares as middle men. Never once did he intend to show his face himself. Not even the guards that were supposed to protect him knew his identity and he wanted to keep it that way.   He continued his explanation, saying how the potion didn't actually cure any illness but instead just let someone appear to be perfectly healthy. While it seems like the person is at the absolute best health, on the inside the illness would still be running wild and continuing to harm the victim.   The people that were unlucky enough to be suffering from illnesses that led to death if left untreated, died. Only to come back after about three days. Their memory about dying being hazy and believing themselves to be alive. They appear almost as if they are living creatures. Though they do not require food or sleep or drink or anything of the sort.   Only long after selling bottle after bottle of this potion did Miranda hear about another side effect. At the first full moon such a now undead person experiences, unknown processes start working in their bodies, turning them into savage beasts, none of their humanity left.   Miranda neither expected, nor wanted this to happen and as such promised on his mother and father and aunts and uncles and grandparents and siblings, and any other family he has, that he would not continue research into this potion, burning any instructions to its creations, and showing that he had no more of the vile liquid left. As prove of his honesty he left the party with his chest, where he had stored the money the merchants brought by. He then went on his way, leaving the party to rest in the wine cellar.   On their way out, Midnight found a strange card with a white feather on it, staching it in one of his pockets before the whole group turned back to Mistmere. The people there were upset and grieving the loss of their loved ones again, though with no one ever finding out that the group was heavily responsible for this, they were able to rest there for a day before heading off towards Everhold to enjoy the port town and then head back to the mainland to acquire membership in a crown aproved adventuring guild.   As such ... another exciting adventure ended.
