Session 03: Wolf v. Kobold
General Summary
As morning arrived, the caravan masters changed. Hastrus Pike was to remain in Wrathgate while Fimmebena Bitterhand, a dwarven member of the Nymphgate Coster, took to lead the caravan and the cook, Rai Hellbreath, was to travel back with the caravan. The cargo heading south toward Eastbridge contained clay bricks as well as some unrefined ores. The caravan stopped in the hills to make camp. During the first watch, Illbryen and Tiarjead saw something skulking at the edge of camp. Investigating, the party found a kobold scout who was easily detained by the group and brought back for interrogation. The kobold was uncooperative, claiming that the party would be easily killed by his allies. He mentioned Fell, apparently their winged leader who towers over the prisoner’s height by at least six inches. He also threatened with Ydarion, a dragon that breathes acid who they venerate as a god and who told them to move to the hills to threaten the caravans to bring back offerings for her. He also claimed that Fell was smart and that they had killed a wolf to take its cubs and planned on training the wolves to help attack the caravans, as all they had now were trained weasels. In the morning, the party set the caravan to continue while they set the kobold free and followed it to see where it took them. They followed the kobold through the hills back to the small cave entrance the party had discovered on their way to Wrathgate. Illevaere and Rieta went into cave first to scout ahead. They came to the intersection they arrived at last time. The first time they were here, they found a deadfall trap on the left passage. They discovered a tripwire set along the passage straight ahead and most of the kobold tracks seemed to head to the right passage. Meanwhile, the rest of the group outside of the cave saw the Old Black Wolf of the Hills in the distance watching them. As it approached, each of the group was overcome with fear and moved away from it. Undisturbed by the party, the Old Black Wolf entered the cave. Once their fear subsided, they went into the cave after the wolf. The Old Black Wolf came upon Illevaere and Rieta as they were getting ready to head out. Rieta was overcome with fear and run along the right path to get away from the wolf. Rieta, however, was not feared and once again the wolf disappeared and possessed her. Rieta went along the right passageway, rejoined by Rieta and the rest of the party. Instead of subduing and binding them, the party let Illevaere continue along. They entered a common room for the kobolds and found the kobold they had let free trying to rally the other kobolds to join him in attacking the caravan. The party engaged the kobolds and Levi’s massive blow to one of the, quickly panicking the others. The kobold who the party had captured before was caught and another kobold who surrendered was spared. Illevaere seemed intent on continuing to fight, scratching and biting the kobolds, but they were restrained by the party. Illevaere was rendered unconscious, at which point they awoke as themselves again, retaining memory of all that they had done, but not having any motive for their actions. The prisoners were interrogated, though the recaptured kobold was mere threatening despite his situation, the other kobold was more willing to share information with the party, viewing Tiarjead with a bit of awe. He gave directions to the party on how to find Fell, warning them of two traps along the pathway. The belligerent kobold was knocked unconscious and was tied up with the helpful kobold and another unconscious kobold that Illevaere had scratched and gnawed on until it passed out. Levi took the lead and after nearly falling into a pit trap with murky water and leeches, he discovered the tar trap he was warned about. Heading forward, the party came to a large chamber with a number of kobolds inside, seeing Levi’s failed stealthy approach at the head of the group.
