Albert passes on to the rest of the group that Augustus Larkin went crazy and they had to shoot him.
Albert looks at the archway and the elongated face and he notices that the moaning sound is coming from the wind blowing across the mouths of the carved faces.
He believes that the noise is meant as a warning.
Father Fury agrees.
Cillian suggests that we just head back to Puno and Jackson Elias says that we need to push forward. He is determined to push forward to get more information on the death cult.
We look to see if there is anything evident that scavengers have been through here, but we don't see much.
We resolve to make camp, set a watch, and weather the night hoping the light of day.
The Doc points out the tattoo and scars. Boris tries to identify the symbols on Larkin's Chest and he is familiar with it, but doesn't know much about it. He knows that it is symbolic from an occult perspective, might be Polynesian or African.
Albert tries to sketch it out. He is ultimately able to but it takes him awhile. The symbols next to the depiction of the creature are very hard for him to duplicate.
Watch order:
Cillian and Doc- Nothing happens during this watch.
Mickey and Nigel and Elias- Nothing happens on this watch as well.
Albert and John- Jon notices that are some birds in the sky, but he notices that they seem to avoid flying over the plateau.
While we sleep, both Nigel and Boris have dreams that predominantly feature maggots.
We make our way back into the area of the ziggurat and begin to investigate.
There are things that Nigel sees on the pyramid that look familiar, that clearly indicate something, but he is uncertain as to what they mean.
Nigel, Father Fury, and Boris find another access hole. It appears to have been covered up over time with leaves, sticks, and debris. The hole below drops about 15 feet down, there are no bodies evident at the bottom of this one, but there is still a strong smell of rot.
The group at the charnal pit is able to see that the opening leading off the pit would allow access for one person. The ramp of corpses leads right to the hole.
Floyd is able to see that at least one of the corpses, one of the more recent ones, has a large round wound in the center of its chest. The other ones that still have flesh on them look emaciated.
We also notice that Boris' flashlight is gone.
Nigel, Father, and Mickey move around the pyramid, Nigel noticed that the other large rocks appear to be capstones that might cover additional routes down.
Cillian volunteers to get lowered down the hole to check out the hole without the bodies.
The walls are a little bit damp from snow and run off.
At the bottom of the pit Cillian finds there is a 4' opening at the bottom that leads to a chute that descends at a steep angle. The opening you would have to crouch inside. It is also very slick.
Albert then decides he is going to go scout the tunnel tied to a bunch of rope.
He starts moving down and sees that if someone slipped and fell in the chute it would be a rough ride.
There are a couple of switchbacks all at a 60 degree angle but eventually dumps out into a passage with a flat, worked stone floor.
The passage is only about 4' tall as well. He thinks he has used about 100' feet of the rope.
There is an exit from the chamber that we could explore.
A group of us climb the pyramid to inspect where the other figures were vomiting that weird white stuff.
It is narrow, only a couple of inches wide, but the blow flies and the smell up here are awful.
Albert for a moment, distinctly hear a wet, squelching sound, coming from the crack.
Albert and Father Fury get the gut feeling that they should not be up here.
We also notice the flies show interest in the crack but do not enter.
Floyd uses his flashlight to peer down into the crack to see if he can see anything.
Floyd catches sight of a seething semi-fluid mass of white matter that is writhing and moving. Strange wormlike creatures move across the surface of the creature and there are bubbles of putrescence that form and burst on its surface. (see Abomination)
This sight causes Floyd to go temporarily insane and he is confronted with the reality of what he has seen.
Father Fury sees something rapidly lash out of the crack and shatters one of the lenses on the doctor's glasses.
Floyd begins to flee from the crack in terror soundlessly and appears like he is going to run right off the edge of the pyramid.
Cillian is able to grab unto him before he pitches off the edge.
Cillian and Albert all try and hold the Doc down so the bout of madness can pass.
Mickey is able to join them and between the three of them they are able to hold Floyd down.
Floyd comes down for the time being, but he is crying and weeping. His mental state fragile.
We are able to work together to get the Doc down off the pyramid.
Floyd lies on the ground, weeping in the fetal position, as we try and decide what we are gonna do.
Father Fury does spend a ton of time praying over the crack.
Mickey, Cillian, Albert, and Elias go back down the pit to investigate.
We find a metal plate on the wall near an intersection of two hallways. There are strange geometric symbols carved into the metal, it looks a bit tarnished, but does appear to be gold. The metal runs the entire length of the walls.
We see a pile of rags on the ground in one of the hallways and investigating we find a body.
As Albert tries to pass by the body, the skeletal body rises up off the ground.
Albert and Mickey both fail sanity checks, but Mickey just disbelieves what is going
Cillian just shoots the thing in the side of the head, doing massive amounts of damage to the skull.
As the skull is destroyed Cillian sees a lump of white flesh that begins to move around the remains of the skull.
Mickey goes into a rage of violence and destruction. He rushes forward and slashes into the dead body, throwing bits of gross. In his rage filled state he doesn't notice the bit of lumpy white flesh has landed on his shoulder.
We ended the session there.
Session 12:
Ranch Dressing: Part Deux
And as I watched the ripples that told of the writhing of worms beneath, I felt a new chill from afar out wither the condor ahd flown, as if my flesh had caught a horror before my eyes had seen it.
