Session 40: The Mere of Dead Men

General Summary

Session 12 FEB 2020: Only Detalosi can fit into the Captain’s quarters with Trask and the Captain. Trask tells a tale about sinking the Wavemother after having a dream of ill portent. He also reveals a rough location, saying that he sank the ship in a cove. The location is some hours from our current position.   Meanwhile, in a far-away tower, Seebo the Wizard wakes from a dream wherein he divines the presence of an adventuring party that piques his interest. He teleports to a nearby Circle.   On the ship, fog creeps up as the night wears on. TokTok Communes With NAture, and encounters 1.) the presence of influence from another plane, 2.) the presence of a powerful celestial, and 3.) normal sea life.   Presently, we encounter the Wavemother, which is floating in defiance of all logic, complete with fire-blasted hole in the side. TokTok swims over, and the rest of us take a ship’s longboat. When we arrive at the Wavemother, we find the ship gutted by fire, with the blackened skeletons of the crew everywhere; some are fused to the deck, and TokTok animates one “To help look for the object.”   As the longboat is being tied to the wreck, I perceive a Gnome male wizard-type in a swamp along the cove. He is trying to get our attention and is wading out into the water. Det walks over and gets him, upon which he says that he might be looking for us. Det brings him back, and he tells his story, which is to look for an extremely dangerous relic.   We all eventually make our way to the Captain’s cabin, where TokTok’s Locate spell says the artifact is. After some fiddling with lockpicks and blunt objects, I go ahead and Knock the door open. A brief search reveals the Crown in a secret compartment under the Captain’s desk, and stored in an intricate wooden box. Once we pull the box, we are attacked by manu Cultists who have mysteriously appeared on deck. Roll for initiative!   After combat, TokTok gives the Circlet to Trask, who breaks it! A wave of force shakes the ship, and some of us fall down. Det is concerned by this turn of events, but it does seem to be the end of the matter.   We return to the ship and continue north to Neverwinter.
