Session 39: Storms Wake
General Summary
Session 29 JAN 2019: We all head down to the Dock Ward, and the Dockmaster tells us that a ship by the name The Green Fisher, captained by Captain Mardred Sternbrow is leaving today or tomorrow for parts northward. While we talk with teh Dockmaster, we see a group of people in grey and blue stopping folks and looking for someone named Trask Bilgeblubber (?), and they appear to be looking for this mysterious personage. Over by the Fisher, we seek out the Captain. Deckhands are loading a mixture of supplies and trade goods. As Lorin is negotiating with the Captain, who is a cigar-chomping female Dwarf, the robed folks spot someone trying to sneak onto the galley. They shout, “There he is! GEt him!” The Captain lets him onto the ship, Det casts Control Water and drags all but one of them into the bay, and we all rush onto the ship. The remaining guy summons a tiny storm over the ship/harbor, and some of us are struck by little lightning. Lorin, once she figures out who these dudes are, drops a Shatter into their ranks, killing four, leaving three. Lily and I both shoot/kill another each, and we escape! Lorin asks the captain why we were fighting the “Disciples of Umberlee.” The Captain gives a stern look and wants to talk privately. She ushers us, and the mysterious Trask into her cabin. HE apologizes, and says that the cultists were after “the circlet” which is the Circlet of the Stormcaller, and that his dreams are starting to come true. The Circlet’s history is known to us: the story involves three sea captains years ago that were faithful to Umberlee and were pirates. All three were eventually killed, and the cultists think that Trask may be the last survivor of the crew of one of them. Apparently, we’ve gotten caught up in a treasure hunt/chase. We settle into the journey: Det cooks, I apprentice with the Bosun and dress like a pirate, Lorin studies the Captain. Det and I notice that the ship is sailing under a merchant flag, but that the crew is disciplined like a privateer. We get the impression that this ship is not above a little tomfoolery on the high seas. The next day, we pass through an archipelago known as the Red Rocks; tricky sailing. We continue our understudies, and some of us learn some Water Vehicles skill! The next day, we pass a settlement on the shoreline atop a peak, called Stonehold. Crew we have befriended: Wild Marci Ginger (Navigator), Claudius the Clever (First MAte), Robert Bones (Cook), Ugly Alan Grey (Bosun), Tarsik. That night, we come upon the Mirror of Dead Men, which is the place where one of these sea captains was sunk in his ship, The Salt of the Wavemother. Trasik says the ship’s remains should be here, and that the Circlet should still be here. HE also reports having dreams of nasty weather on the ocean and the Circlet being used to control weather/water. We decide to go diving, and in a burst of creative tinkering, I rig up a breathing system for some deeper diving. That night, we come close to the Mirror of Dead Men. At the bow, we hear a scream! IT is the undead Captain Cutter of the Wavemother, John Truant! IT claims that Trask betrayed him, and Trask accuses him of betraying his faith! Suddenly, several pirate zombies appear! Roll for initiative! We kill the undead CAptain and his crew! Det takes the severed head of the undead Captain, and says to Trask, “Either you talk and tell us the whole story, or this skull will talk for us!” Trask, nervously, agrees to spill the whole story. We Identify a Ring of Swimming and a Wand of Pyrotechnics.
