Session 29: Tubing

General Summary

Session 11 SEP 2019: We wake up and choose to continue floating downriver. We find the cavern that I spied out the previous night, but now we find a door recessed into the NW wall. Det pushes it open, and we see a small stone room. There is a fallen block on the floor, apparently from a previously-triggered booby trap. I can barely squeeze through the crack between the stone and the doorjamb, so Det casts a spell to manipulate the stone soa s to widen the passage. Under the stone, we find its hapless victim, who has 14g in his dessicated pockets.   The walls of this tiny room are covered in bas reliefs of Dwarves, but the carvings have been defaced (sometimes literally). At the far end, which is not too far, really, is another door. This one is quite ornately carved, and does not appear to be tampered with, nor does it seem inherently magical. History checks say that this door will open for a Dwarf, but no other. So, Det makes himself look like a Dwarf (racial spell) and fools it open!   We come into a very large room! IT has four unfinished statues, pillars holding up the walls, and a Zorn in the center. It is Very large, made of stone, and has three arms and three legs. The Mad Mage’s voice enters our head and tells us that he calls it Steven after his uncle.   With some trepidation, we kill Steven. We find 100g of gold and gems in its hoard. We also find an Elven alabaster throne hidden in plaster. IT is carved by an ancient kingdom in the north over 2500 years ago. The dwarves found it and wanted to return it, but they wanted to repair it first. Clearly, it never made it home. We take it to pay Lily’s debt!   We go back to the river and investigate the extra boat. It is inscribed with a Conjuration spell, which Lorin reads! It conjures a Tiefling skeleton in a black, tattered cloak; the skeleton picks up the pole and holds out its hand to us. We refuse.   So, we take our own boat across the river to the eastern bank. We find a large, old statue of a human in armor with weapon extended. It is highly detailed and appears frozen in a lifelike manner. Further checking finds more statues, in worse shape, and some big cocoons. We name the place Fuck That and get back into the boat. We float down a bit more, whereupon we are set upon by a vicious gang of insubstantial Fog Farts!   We defeat the Fog Farts, and pass three Pirate Ghosts in the midst of an argument about finding treasure! We float past, but not before Det tries to Turn those Undead. Apologizing profusely, we pass by the ghosts, who go back to literal saber-rattling.   Floating further, the river turns west and then northwest. Within a hundred feet or so, we are bracketed by two landings directly across from each other, and each hosting two to three Drow with crossbows and a bead on our position! Guns out and shields up! Tune in next week!
