Session 04 Report
General Summary
After being held at gunpoint, Johnny manages to calm the man down. The man introduces himself as Alan Sanderson, the security officer at Outpost 247 and to the PCs surprise, not the sole survivor of the terrible incident that befell the facility. He's not the sharpest pencil in the case, and doesn't have much information on the "whys". But he explains to the group that he came in search of medical supplies and some extra food. He's trying to take care of the other survivor, Dr. Meredith Roberson. Upon revelation that Johanna could be of assistance, Sanderson agrees to take the Solitude's crew to his encampment, in "the ice caves".
The night draws nearer and the crew departs the facility after grabbing some supplies from the ship. They travel on foot through thick layers of snow and strong winds, for about 30-45 minutes, until they reach an enormous wall of shiny ice, that spans to both sides and upwards as far as their lights can shine. Sanderson then guides the group through a passage that runs under the wall, through icy tunnels that refract the torchlights in a myriad of colours, from the whole spectrum. It's a beautiful and enthralling experience, only enhanced by the howling and whistling winds that run through these tunnels, creating a wondrous cacophony of unintelligible sounds.
Not too long after the crew descends into the tunnels, guided by a Sanderson that often stops to count tunnels, they reach the encampment. Dr.Meredith Roberson is in a sleeping bag, suffering from a high fever. Johanna inspects her wounds; she has a crushed foot, totally inflamed. She takes care of it as best as she can.
Meanwhile, Drax and Maja decide to explore the caves a little bit. They discover/notice these strange semi-translucent slugs, as big as a large African snail, that emit some light and burrow in the ice. They also have some funny encounters with the other native inhabitants: the adorable six-legged cats, with tentacles in their backs. They observe their behaviour, akin to meerkats, and notice that they use some kind of infra or ultrasound to provoke reactions in their bodies, causing them to either "blur" or "phase". These cats are extremely cunning and fast.
After a couple of tries, Maja manages to lure them with some captured slugs, but not before they show another quirky capacity: it seems they can emit some kind of sound wave that can cause a lot of headaches (literal headaches).
It seems that these cats are after these slugs not only for their nutritional value, but also for… "relaxation". After one of the cats manages to take a bite off the slug, it showed signs of being "high". Which then, allowed Maja to capture a couple of them, with Drax's help.
Then they return to the encampment, where Johnny had a bit of a chat with both Sanderson and Roberson, when she woke up. She told them what she could about the incident, and revealed that Fredriksen is some kind of arms and bioweapons engineer. She showed clear distrust towards him and Weyland Yutani. She wants to go back to the facility, to look for other survivors, but was strongly discouraged by Johnny (who btw, was recruiting both to the Solitude, LOL).
The cats, having learned that the crew can give them loads of slugs, amassed in a very large group to get some free "drugs", and the crew started digging and hurling slugs to them, to fend them off.
