2023/10/04: Continued Adventures in Space Part 6 Report

General Summary

Buzz, Lillith, Johann, Kal'vus, Union   As the party headed for the lifts on one side of the ship, they ran into some enraged xenomorph-like aliens. At the same time, Zaran and Sith mysteriously disappeared. The party killed the monsters without much effort, though they did cause Kal'vus some serious wounds when he took point and got swarmed. They died very messy deaths. The goop they left turned into gold coins after their deaths, though some suspicious inspection suggested they were cursed or otherwise dangerous. Lillith sealed them away in a very secure chest.   Red light ooze. Looks like it's made of light, but is physical. Aggressive, sticky, uncomfortably warm. Johann's punches just got him stuck. Kal'vus's slashes mostly took it apart. Lillith's arrows were apparently eaten and used as fuel. It appears to want to engulf and presumably eat humanoids.   The party made their retreat while the ooze reformed, making their way to one of the side lifts. Johann turned the wheel to open the passage while Kal'vus kept the ooze busy. The ooze seemed to be adapting: Kal'vus got the impression that he'd given the thing some martial arts lessons by the end of it.   Johann dropped down the lift after Buzz checked the shaft integrity with a lit stone. In the room at the bottom, on Deck 7, there was the sound of rushing water with no apparent source. Some ghosts were visible, frantically pressing at buttons. They were saying something about "supersymmetry" and channeling power through the hull and shields to keep hull integrity. Then they vanished and reappeared, apparently from a later time, where they were rifling through materials in drawers and on desks. They talked about needing to find some element to feed to "it", but they'd already gone through every element on the table. Then they looked up in surprise and fear, apparently about to get attacked, and they disappeared again.   The red ooze, many floors above, flowed straight through the wall of force Buzz summoned in an attempt to slow it down. The party was still able to escape with little issue, though Kal'vus did a flying dive down the shaft and bonked his head on the way down.   At the bottom, the party noticed that there was now water beginning to flood out from behind one of the four access doors. The room was slowly flooding. The party started looking for any details around the room that could be relevant. This was supposed to be where the black hole device was, and the purple tendrils flowing off Zeltheon's sword seemed to be aimed at the center of the room, but there was nothing visible.   Union tried ascending to see if that let him detect it. He promptly returned himself to his body before his soul could be rent asunder by the horrifying void heart in the center of the room. The party didn't find anything useful in the room, so Buzz led the way towards the rear of the ship. The next room had a lake or large pool, surprisingly deep, and with something glowing in the center. And then a giant quadrupedal ice beast climbed out of the pool to kill them.   It turned out to have a cryogenic frost breath weapon. Johann almost got put into cryogenic stasis. He naturally responded with "You know, this reminds me of that time..."   When the party killed the monster, it returned to the pose it had started in, looked surprised, briefly looked wise, and then evaporated into a several-foot-wide glowing frost orb floating in the air. Lillith took it and it started purring at her, if purring was the rumbling of an avalanche. New friend acquired! It seemed to be sentient and capable of responding to questions, though it couldn't actually speak.   The party got some answers and at least one riddle, but there was no clear solution, so they carried on. They recovered a magic silver brazier that had apparently been used (unsuccessfully) to try to do some divination.   The party learned from the ice beast guardian that there were four elemental guardians still on the ship, and the party needed to defeat them to fully finish this place. The big pool of water, it seemed, was one of these guardians. It also turned out to be antimagic water, which was just great.
