FOF: The Last Gleaming, Session 1 - The Price of Her Freedom Report

General Summary

The session began in The Dark Horse Tavern   John Jay and his newfound companion Newby Wilson, returned to the Common Room after Austin and Martin had returned from the early reconnoiter of Captain Tew's Rest in the Dock Ward.   Karl ordered beer and once on friendlier terms with Jay and Newby, asked Jay successfully about his experience of Major Harold Winchester:   "There was a secret attempt by a Scotsman named Thomas Lundin but better known as Lord Drummond. He had first come to America in 1768 and made a wide circle of friends in the colonies and he also had friends in England as well. I was among Lord Drummonds friends in the colonies. Lord Drummond returned to England where he worked out a peace plan with Lord North. When he returned to Philadelphia, to discuss the peace plan further, Major Winchester came with him. Peyton Randolph, who was the President of the Continental Congress, was favorably disposed to Lord Drummond's peace plan, but then suddenly died of apoplexy, an odd coincidence, immediately after expressing his support. Drummond returned to England without an agreement, but the terms introduced by Lord North to the House of Commons for reconciliation afterward were far less conciliatory. Some say the Howe brothers, Admiral Richard and General William, eager for glory in the war, had a hand in the breakdown of peace negotiations. Major Winchester also has ties to the Howe brothers, it is known."   Newby Wilson also expressed the outlandish belief that Winchester was in league with the devil and had killed Peyton Randolph with witchcraft.   Marguerite Montagne expressed the opinion that Captain Tew's Rest was located in a district, "that Cruger's wharf", where no lady of quality would venture, when asked by rumor-monger Karl.   The saying goes, "beggars can't be choosers". In any event, they must be found first. Allen Wythe, a beggar who from his lowly vantage is hardly noticed by those he spies upon, everyone (for information has a value), could not be tracked down by Josiah using his woodsman's craft, perhaps more apt to the dense forests of America than its major cities.   But there was better success with Miss Poppy Hill, a doxie frequenting The Holy Ground where the Stalwarts had once succored her in the past.  She doesn't work that side of the street, but knows a doxie, one Miss Nelly Garness, who does work Captain Tew's Rest.    At length, the Stalwarts made their way to the Dock Ward, to meet at the agreed upon rendezvous Captain William Farley and the 12 soldiers detailed to support their recovery of Sarah Roosevelt.  Not one to put the cart before the horse, Carl brought along his horse and cart in case a getaway was required.  They made their way across town to Cruger's Wharf, avoiding the parties of soldiers engaged in fortification of the city's defenses.   Alas, Captain Farley and his dozen soldiers were nowhere to be found.  Martin espied a dark clad figure watching  them from the alley.  He seemed to have a flintlock    The Stalwarts made their way Captain Tew's rest, only to see, to their concern, two tall men of military bearing carrying bushe, the short rifle of huntsmen on the forested slopes of the Rhine.  Karl knew these men to be jaegers, the deadliest sort of killers.  The truth of rumors concerning King George hiring Hessian soldiers to do his dirty work in the colonies seemed most certain with their presence here!   (Everyone remember, a shot of jaegermeister will be ceremoniously toasted at the next session)   Karl attempted to persuade his fellow countrymen of his good intentions but was sternly rebuked and could not enter at the door without unseemly conflict.   Josiah did sneak his way down a back alley to the kitchen door of the establishment, but could hear nothing doing on the other side, except the crackle of a fire and muffled voices.   Austin meanwhile made his way into the Common Room without challenge.  There, he made free with a table of loyalist riff-raff sailors who quickly put an end to any notion of intelligence in that quarter.   He made his way to the bar, where at one end sat three doxies displaying their wares and at the other three bewigged strangers wearing dark clothing, hats and jackets,  and sporting flintlock pistols.   For 5s, a doxie named Iris Hazard invited Austin to go upstairs with her, but he liked the looks of another better, he said, who proved to be Nelly Garness.   And here we left off until the next episode, August 22nd and 4 pm EDT.   EXPERIENCE:   50 Reward Points are earned for two hours of game play   We will begin the next session with a pre-game debrief in which every character who describes how the session impacted their character will gain another 50 RP.  All talents and bonus advances must be purchased to advance from basic to intermediate tier.  You began with 700 RP, 300 more must be acquired to complete basic tier.   Thanks and look forward to the next session!
