Session 26: Taking What's Not Yours Report

General Summary

Recap:

  1. The party awakes the morning after their successful capture of a Capran airship, though it seems they have company.
  2. Watching over them is a vulture-like aarakocra named Ska, and he's shortly joined by his lizardfolk companion Griss'tok. The two explain that they're not enemies, but escaped slaves of the Capris Armada, and wish to know if the party are also enemies of the Armada.
  3. Explaining they too are no friends of the Armada, the party is offered a mutually beneficial alliance by Ska and Griss'tok, who begin to tell the party of pertinent inside information about the Armada.
  4. Ska tells of three main generals of the Capris Armada, the Leader, a very large white-feathered aarakocra named Admiral Ka'Ir, his second-in-command, a brutal black-feathered aarakocra named Kel, and a third, brown-feathered and wingless aarakocra named Zul, who is capable of casting powerful magic. Griss'tok explains that his quarry is with Kel, as Griss was his prize fighter in captivity.
  5. The party decides on attempting to kill Kel, one of the more dangerous targets, but also the closest. When asked about how they can get to Kel, Ska explains that the airships need to land within certain areas in order to refuel, and he's knows where these areas are.
  6. With Ska's help, the party refuels their own culler ship, and heads to the closest ambush point.
  7. The party sets up a trap, using their acquired culler ship and Griss'tok himself as bait, and waiting for Kel's ship, Talon to arrive.
  8. It's a boring twenty-hour wait, but eventually, the ship the party is looking for, Talon, arrives, but stays a cautious distance from the party's trap.
  9. Two aarakocra leave from the Talon, investigating the scene, and it was up to Wren to bluff her way through their conversation, magically disguised as a capran. Her story is convincing enough that she and Griss aren't attacked on sight, but just as the caprans attempt to do some investigating, Griss'tok plays up the performance, prompting them to immediately send for their commander.
  10. Kel descends from his ship, now with a total of three caprans at his side, and begins to question Wren, who's still in disguise. When Wren unknowingly slips up, and refers to Kel as "sir," Kel attacks, and the trap is sprung.
  11. During the combat, Kel proves to be quite dangerous, but luckily the party's new ally, Griss'tok is also very formidable. The party seems close to killing Kel, when suddenly he dashes past then, and heads directly towards Celrin. Celrin's just barely unable to drop Kel herself, and is only able to avoid his lethal attacks for so long, until she is killed, beheaded by Kel in a single bite.
  12. Kel is defeated, but there is little time for celebrating victory, or mourning for Celrin, as the caprans aboard the Talon begin looking for their commander. The party grabs Kel's signature claw, and retreat south.
