The Beginning

Little is known to Church about his creation and life before his rebirth. He was created as a machine of war for The Last War (can change). When the war ended, so did his usefulness. He was decommissioned and left to decay. Until centuries later when he, along with others of his kind, were discovered by a noble family. Lady Alsyra Torris was a renowned and influential general in her kingdom. She led many armies to battle, winning each and every time with minimal casualties on her side. Those of Church’s group that could be salvaged were taken to their state, where they were rebuilt.
Upon waking up, the General met with each of them, gaining insight into what they knew and what their new purpose would be. They were rebuilt to serve her and her family. She allowed each of them to choose their new tasks, as well as their new names. They each decided on what they would be. Chef, a tall and lean bronze Warforged, chose to dedicate himself to the culinary craft, soon becoming the head cook of the estate. Chisel, being fascinated with the architecture of their new home, requested to become the repairman of the estate, pledging to ensure that the building was more perfect than it already was. Charming, the most humanoid looking of the group, fell in love with the music and performances of the world, stating that they would be the one to entertain guests. However, Church found difficulty with deciding his new purpose. It would soon change, however, when Lady Torris would give birth to her children, Drayce and Maya Torris. As he stared down at the sleeping twins, wrapped gently in soft blankets, he spoke out loud that he would never let any harm come to them. He would be their protector, their sanctuary. So he picked his name, Church, as he would protect those around him.
Years passed, with Drayce and Maya growing up before Church’s eyes. He would always be by their sides. Whenever they would fall he would tend to their wounds, whenever they struggled with their studies he would help tutor them. He would be the first face they see waking up and the last one they see falling asleep. He cared deeply for them. His duties became more complicated, however, when the twins discovered their affinity towards magic. Drayce began to excel in the arts of wizardry, while Maya unlocked a dormant, volatile power within her blood. Despite these new updates, he would continue to tutor them and guide them through their studies of their magic.
During his years under the employment of Lady Torris, he began to hone his own intellect. Lady Torris introduced him to the game Dragon-Chess, of which he became a quick learner. Through this game he developed a keen insight into the art of strategy.
It was on one day when Lady Torris was informed of an upcoming cataclysm that would decimate their home world. Actions were being taken to prevent this, but Lady Torris would take no chances. She ordered construction on a Spelljammer posthaste, so that if they were unable to avoid this disaster, they would still be safe. A month passed, and the Spelljammer was nearly complete, but that is when the cataclysm struck. It began when the sky grew black, and heavy rains of fire began falling down. Lady Torris acted quickly, guiding her family and everyone in the estate onto their spelljammer ship, Serenity. He and Lady Torris were the last on the ship. They took to the skies, watching as other spelljammers made their escape from the planet. It was not over yet, however, as the other ships began exploding around them, targeted by an unknown powerful force. Church knew what he had to do, he had to protect the children. He brought them to the cryo-sleep chamber, quickly putting them under so that they would not be at harm while they escaped. Serenity collided with something large, causing him to lose his balance, his head hitting the edge of Lady Torris’ cryo-pod. He lost consciousness soon after, the last words he heard being a plea from Lady Torris before she was frozen, to protect her children. He remained unconscious for years to come, until one day he was unearthed on an unfamiliar planet, and repaired by those who found him.
