Kila Thornbarrow is a halfling guide and hunter from the Innersea island of Isle of Kortos. A local folk hero in her homeland near the town of Willowside, she has left home and travelled throughout Kortos, and has come to Otari.

Kila's Story

Kila was born near the bayou town of Williowside, on the northwestern coast of Kotoros. Hers and several other clans of halflings made their homes in the hills just north and east of the town, between the settlement and the Dunmire . Most made their living in fishing and trapping, including Kila's family, but she was bound for something different. Kila proved to be a curious wanderer almost from childhood and the swamplands of Willowside would not hold her for long.
 
When she was still an adolescent, Kila was the first one to discover massive a horde of monstrous creatures making its way within the scarred landscape of The Welt towards the coast. Kila was tireless in convincing her kinfolk and indeed, all the denizens of Willowside of the imminent threat. Because of her, the people were ready and when the creatures sprung out from the Welt, they were able to push them back.
 
Following her turn as a local hero, Kila's skills as a tracker and guide took a great boost. She took advantage of this and started taking sometimes hefty sums to ply her trade. A common request was to guide the wealthy and curious on voyeuristic tours into the Welt. People seemed motivated by seeing where the monsters came from.
 
It was one such excursion that ended in tragedy and changed Kila's life forever. Against her repeated warnings, one of her employers, wandered too deeply into the Welt and disappeared. The man was the son of the mayor of the nearby harbor town of Kerrick, making the circumstances more tenuous. Despite her reputation, the missing man's attendants, who were witness to the events, seemed set to deflect all blame to her so Kila ran rather than be falsely accused and possibly imprisoned.

Kila's Description and Mannerisms

Kila is of average height for her kind, standing just two and a half feet tall. She is, however, rather stout for a halfling, weighing in the mid-40s in pounds, which is an indication of her physical fortitude. She has red hair and steel-blue eyes, with a fair but tanned complexion.
 
In times of action, Kila tends to hang back from the thick of the fight and use her bow to aid her compatriots in the fight. Despite her fortitude, she's not physically strong so she avoids up-close conflict.
 
Outside of conflict, Kila is a consummate guide and tracker and is most often seen at the forefront of her group. Her companion, an osprey named Oneiros aids her in scouting out surrounding areas and thereby, plotting the best paths through the unknown.
