A Fire Genasi came to consciousness in a strange environment. The extremely hot climate clung to his ashen skin, a heavy smell of sulphur and chlorine hung in the air. As he sat up he noticed how badly the rocks felt jabbing into every inch of his body. A red haze sat over the sky around him, and he had to blink for all the ash that attempted to accost his eyes. He tried to recall where he was, but found he couldn’t even bring his own name to the fore of his brain.
After wandering this flaming wasteland for an undetermined amount of time with nothing but the rags on his back, another Fire Genasi approached him.
This individual introduced himself, “I am Flamelight, the watcher. I look after the Hattara Cut and the travelers who journey through. You are not from our Tribe, nor have you traveled through here before. Who are you?”
"I.. don't know. I don't know how I got here."
"Ah, well you are not the first, nor do I think you will be the last that I hear that from. I suggest that you head on over to Jaahil. Mabel will be journeying there in a few hours, as it is best to travel through the night. Come I will take you there."
Upon meeting Mabel, he thinks she is an elf though not any type of elf that he can identify. Her skin coloring has shifts of gold amongst the umber colors and her eyes are a true silver color. Her elf ears are particularly long, and her voice seemed to indicate she was from the region. The trek to Jaahil wasn't an arduous one, but it was a slow journey due to the size of the caravan that was traveling. The Fire Genasi spoke to Mabel quite a bit on the journey, trying to learn all he could about Jaahil, Queen Faelyn Ayda Zora Cosmo Wyndan, and about the entire country of Cocophymal. Mabel also helped him come up with a name for himself, Jotem Phoenix. Jotem wasn't sure why, but something about the name just felt right.
Upon arriving in Jaahil, Mabel directed Jotem to an inn called Sleep of the Weary. She then introduced him to Petjor, the elderly male elf who ran the place. He was kind enough to over Jotem a place to sleep and food for his belly as long as he needed. Before Mabel left, she gave Jotem a thousand gold, a map of Stellify, and a set of clean clothes to get him started with this new life.
Jotem spent roughly a week at Sleep of the Weary, doing everything he could to try and remember what came before his awakening. While Petjor's offer was incredibly generous, but the charity given to him by Mabel was making him feel incredibly uneasy so he had to do something to return Petjor's generosity. Jotem would sneak down at night and clean up for Petjor. It wasn't much, but it made Jotem feel like he was at least earning his keep.
After outfitting himself with some basic traveling supplies, Jotem felt himself drawn to the sound of clanging metal. He wasn't sure why, but the sound comforted him. He came upon The Steel Blade, a smithy owned by a soot covered human woman named Senna. Senna's chestnut brown hair was pulled back into a tight pony tail, but Jotem suspected her wavy locks went down past her waist. Her body was muscle from head to toe, and had been kissed by the sun. Her sky blue eyes were like a refreshing sea breeze. As he explored the blacksmith's wares, he realized he needed armor and a weapon, though he wasn't sure if he knew how to use them. Jotem explained to Senna the predicament he was in, and she offered to give him some lessons after the shop closed.
Jotem returned a few hours later, eager to be back near the forge. He spent several hours trying out different weapons and armor, but found that he was strangely at home in a set of heavy armor. Senna was also amazed when Jotem was able to put her on her butt with little effort when a sword and shield was in his hands.
Now fully equipped, Jotem journeyed out into the Dragon Blood Forest. He wasn't sure what he was looking for, but he needed to do something to try and jog his memory. He traveled for a couple of days with no real purpose. While setting up his camp one night, a pack of wolves ambushed him. Jotem barely managed to fend them off, and was badly wounded.
Jotem found himself jostled awake some time later by a strange tabaxi. The tabaxi introduced himself as Bear Claw. Bear helped Jotem get back on his feet and set up a place for them to rest. Bear was on his way to Jaahil to find a new group to adventure with. Jotem still had no idea what he was doing or where he was going, but something about Bear put Jotem at ease, so he decided he'd join Bear and head back to Jaahil.
Though he wasn't sure of it at first, Jotem found himself allowing his new tabaxi friend to call him JoJo. So JoJo and Bear arrived in Jaahil. Jotem returned to Sleep of the Weary, and while Petjor wanted to continue his generous offer from before, Jotem managed to convince the old elf to just take the money. Jotem had no idea what was in store for him and his new friend, but he had a feeling something good was on the horizon.
