Personal history
Orion was born in the Dwarven city of Duodecim, a totalitarian city with an economy based around Nethicite, a highly toxic substance that can be woven into metal alloy. It is one of the few extract-able resources of magic out there and its in high demand.
Growing up under in a strict house, Orion was under constant watch from his father, the Arbitor over the city named Duodecim. He grew up thinking that he was meant to take over his father's position one day, to take over the protection of the city. In his time training, he met a young woman name Ethel, a lovely dwarven maiden with unending compassion. The two fell in love almost instantly. Orion falling for Ethel's purity and beauty. She saw through his tough appearance, to see the caring man hidden underneath. The two lived a great life together over the next century or so, giving birth to a boy named Rigel.
In this time, Orion's father retired, leaving his son in command. Orion spent his time helping to protect the city, while Ethel found work helping where she could, including miners, homeless, orphans, ect. During her excursions to help people, specifically during her time helping the miners of Duodecim, she contracted Nethicite Sickness, a terrible illness contracted due to exposure to raw Nethicite. There is no cure for this illness, which left Orion and Rigel to simply watch her wither away in her bed. When she finally passed, she made Orion promise to love their child, and make the world a better place, in any way that he can.
Ethel's death broke Orion, who quickly fell to a life consisting of only drinking and fighting. He began neglecting poor Rigel, choosing to spend his time at the tavern, or in the fighting pits rather than the home where Ethel died. His father quickly intervened, taking Rigel under his wing and out of the toxic environment that was his own home. Orion left his position in the Arbiters, in order to continue his drinking in peace. Left all alone, this lifestyle continued on for years, until one day, the fighting caught up to him. After winning fight after fight, those who lead the fighting pits began losing money due to no one wanting to go up against him.
To solve their problems those who hosting the fights set up a team based fight in the arena, putting the two best pit fighters under Orion up against Orion and the pit's newest member, a young man obviously in over his head. The fight was quick as Orion took out one of their opponents with ease, looking over just in time to see his young teammate being beaten on the floor. Running over, to interject in this poor boy's demise, Orion knocked the attacker off of the boy, and began to check for a pulse from his bloodied, limp body. With his guard down, Orion was able to find a weak pulse. He turned just in time to see the burly dwarf that ended up tearing his arm clean off, leaving him there in a bloody mess.
From here, Orion's father stepped back into the picture. He had Orion cleaned up, and instead of having a cleric regenerate his arm, which was very possible, he had a crude mechanical arm created and enchanted to have grafted onto Orion's stump. This was to be a constant reminder of his fall from grace. A reminder of how he broke the promise he made to his wife, and how ashamed she would be of him. From here, Orion began to turn his life around, leaving Duodecim to help those who need it, and leaving his son to take over as Arbitor in his place.
