[Odette Delapearl speaking about his adventuring origins and earlier life]
I still don’t know why. I still don’t know why my parents abandoned me soon after I was born. Thankfully, Rumus Delapearl decided to become my guardian and take the role of parent for me instead. I would take his name, after all he was more family than my parents ever were. Rumus was a real poet, a bard. As I grew up he taught me everything I know about poetry, lyricism and storytelling. It seemed like I had a natural talent for it too. We did however never stay at a place more than 2 nights. Rumus always said that it is important to always be on the move in life, life is too short for staying in one place and not seeing the world and meeting all its people.
I was also a very charismatic child, I found new friends wherever I want and I still do today. I think it was thanks to those charismatic skills I found my husband. I never thought one could one so much. Not until we had our son. But something was not right when he was born. He did not look like other Tritons. He had the looks of a silver colored drake instead. Often folk are afraid of what they don’t understand. My husband quickly disappeared after our son was born and Triton society never accepted my son. They sent him to exile to “protect” the city. Of course as couldn’t abandoned my loving son as his father did so I went into exile with him. Before I left the oceans Rumus gave me his knife, a knife that had been in his family for generations.
Me and my son traveled the northern realms, helping small folk with simple quests and using my poetic skills in conjunction with music at different street corners or smaller taverns. During these travels I found myself at a haunted mansion, meeting spirits and ghosts way more powerful than me at the time. I would have been killed right then and there if it weren't for Valmoria. A much more experienced adventurer, an Elf that could do the most amazing spells and magical tricks. After that event we travelled together for a while, she taught me how some bards use their poetry, music and instruments as a magical focus to channel spells. She also taught me the basics of combat and survival in the wilds. After a year or so travelling together we went different paths, she said she was going to search for great treasures to the south. She recommended that I go to Vernan to further develop my skills, she also told me that it perhaps could be a good town to raise my son in.
As my adventure led me to the small village of Vernan I would meet some of my now closest friends. I met these new friends at the tavern, the Blindwhale. We had all been tasked with the same quest but from different folks, to kill the local gang leader that terrorized the village of Vernan. My new friends’ names were Boern Stoneclaw and Gautrek. We never did manage to kill him but Stoneclaw managed to gauche his left eye out. However, even though the mission was not a success a trust was established between us and from then on, we helped each other on many small quests and missions commissioned by the townsfolk and travelers. We weren’t perhaps friends yet but good colleagues.
After months of helping the locals at Vernan, often together with my new found friends, I began to hear about a rumor in town. Apparently, a cult of some kind had been attacking traders and travelers along the mountain trails a couple of days' travel away. Stoneclaw and Gauttrek had heard the same rumor and decided to try and get rid of them. I however already had some quests to take care of in town, also I had my son with me, he would probably not handle the mountain travel that well.
But after months of not hearing any word from them or about them in town I began to worry and decided to go and find them. Leaving my son in the care of the tavern keeper of the Blindwhale I went towards the mountain. It took me days to find the entrance to the cult’s camp. It was the first time I knew I could detect magic if I concentrated hard enough. Their entrance you see was hidden, an illusion that I managed to unveil. The cult seemed to worship some kind of dragon at the looks of things. I sneaked around the camp looking for my friends, and finally I found Gauttrek. He looked to be in poor shape, they had probably tortured him. I freed him and we snuck our way up the mountain where apparently Stoneclaw was supposed to be held hostage according to Gauttrek. To our horror Gauttrek was right, and Stoneclaw was held hostage by the dragon itself!
A great battle took place but we were no match against the silver dragon. But then to all our surprise he returned to his humanoid form, revealing that he was my long lost husband and he had great plans for my son (this explains his dragon-like appearance ). Apparently all this was part of his plan to kidnap my son from me. He returned to dragon form and flew towards Vernan. After we had fled from the rest of the cult and finally returned to the town my son was nowhere to be seen.
After these events we were closer than ever before, an inseparable team. As we traveled the northern realms together we began hearing about this new frontier, a place of great treasures, peace and prosperity. This was exactly what I had been searching for and it seemed to be true for the others as well. A way for us to start anew and an opportunity for me to search for information about my son in the process.
