Key's Story
Keyannaphine was born in the woodlands around Silverymoon in the autumn of 1248 of the Dalereckoning. Her family, being one of some influence, was able to send Key to study in the finest schools of the Gem of the North and later, to the court of the High Mage, Lady Hope herself, Alustriel Silverhand.
Even when Alustriel disappeared at the dawn of the Time of Troubles and was presumed dead, Key remained at court. But, as Faerun recovered from the upheaval of the Troubles in the middle third of the 15th century DR, Key began to feel restless. She enjoyed her comfortable life enough yet she longed for more. So, when Alustriel resurfaced triumphantly, Key made the momentous decision to see more of what the world had to offer.
Key spent the next dozen years or so seeking work that would take her beyond the borders of the Silver Marches. Not long after midwinter of her 250th year of life, her family entrusted her to deliver some goods and messages to close acquaintances in the Ardeep Forest and she set out for a journey further away from home than she'd ever been.
Key's Descriptions and Mannerisms
Key is diminutive, even by elven standards. Standing just over five feet in height, she's well suited for her chosen profession of scout. She's not particularly strong but she is fast and stout and quite capable physically. Her black hair, which she wears undercut on one side and flipped to that side, her copper-tan skin, and her green eyes are very much characteristics of her heritage.
In battle, Key's equally adept with the trademark ranged weapon of elves, the longbow and with the rapier always at her side. She eschews all but the lightest armor and she uses her mobility and evasive abilities to keep out of melee situations as much as she can.

Keyannaphine in the Ardeep
During her weeks in the Ardeep Forest, Key learns a number of things about the woods and surrounding area. She learns that the elves of the Ardeep have distant ties to the Silver Marches. It is accepted that there is shared ancestry between some of the tribes in the wood and Key's own family.
Key also learns that the goings-on in and around the Ardeep are hardly mundane and have been so for many years. The elves of the forest have been in conflict with the settlement of Nightstone for many decades. The rich folks from Waterdeep that use Nightstone as a base for their hunting expeditions into the Ardeep have never been welcomed by the elves.
The conflict had abated for a decade or so prior to a couple of years ago as Nightstone had seemingly been abandoned by the Waterdhavians. However, the village was recently reestablished and conflict began anew. Then, a decisive confrontation in the prior year, 1498 DR resulted in the death of the Lord of Nightstone. His widow sued for peace thereafter and tensions have relaxed some in the last year.
The trouble with Nightstone died down but the elves of the Ardeep did not find peace. In the summer of 1498 DR, numerous tribes of goblins moved into the forest from the badlands to the south. The elves were forced once again to fight in defense of their homes and were finally able to expel the last of the goblins early in the winter of the following year.
Peace did not follow however. Orc war bands had already begun raiding the forest from the south before the last of the goblins were run out. The elves learned to their chagrin that the orcs had driven the goblins north and they were little more than refugees fleeing the orcish onslaught. And the elves have been in conflict with the orcs since.
Key and Devlin in Nightstone
It was mere coincidence that the two visitors from afar, Devlin and Keyannaphine, aka Key arrive in Nightstone on the same day. Coincidence or perhaps fate. If it was fate, then it was a dark destiny that they did. After a restful night in Nightstone's renowned inn, both of them were caught up in unfortunate events that were none of their doing.
As both Devlin and Key made preparations to leave the small outpost, each on their own way, Nightstone fell under attack. A massive fortress impossibly floating upon a cloud bank, appeared over the horizon. They watched, along with the locals, stunned as the apparition sped quickly towards the village. When it arrived above Nightstone, large boulders were dropped from it bombarding the town.
The villagers of Nightstone fled for their lives from the assault and the two visitors joined them. Dozens ran out of the town and headed north and west into the hills around Nightstone. They escaped the incredible attack but only rushed into new danger. The residents of Nightstone sought refuge in caves they knew of not far from Nightstone. Unbeknownst to them, however, these caves were now occupied by a warren of goblins. The goblins were too numerous and all the refugees were taken prisoner.
The situation seemed bleak after a full day of captivity. A handful of the captives had already been taken away and were not heard from again. The remaining three dozen or so feared the worst. Their fears were alleviated when a small group of heroes arrived suddenly and liberated them. The adventurers then accompanied Nightstone's natives back to the village, Key and Devlin with them.
