Appearance

Physical Description

Small and scrawny--even for a Halfling. She appears somewhat pale and malnourished, like she could benefit from some decent meals.

Facial Features

Her big brown eyes are her most noticeable feature. They're usually wide open and darting around in interest, taking in her surroundings.

Physical quirks

Small of stature and with a mouse-like personality, Tilly can easily be overlooked--and she prefers it that way. She keeps to the shadows and blends in with her environment. When she does speak, it's in a quick, high-pitched voice that usually lacks conviction. With her true friends, she will speak her mind, otherwise she hides in anonymity.

Apparel & Accessories

Tilly wears a hodgepodge of found items in layers so she can carry all her belongings with her at once. Her most recent acquisition is a shiny scarf knitted by Nanna Hellen, which she wears with pride. She has unevenly cut hair that she keeps at a manageable length with her own dagger, and pulls a ratty old shawl over her head when she is actively trying to hide.

Specialized Equipment

Tilly loves using her shortbow--a weapon she is very proud to own, since she fixed it herself. She will also use her dagger in a pinch. Everything she owns is cobbled together, heavily patched, or creatively adapted to extend its natural usefulness.

Special abilities

There's nothing magical about Tilly, but she's been known to be incredibly "Lucky" at times. Attacks that seemed certain to miss suddenly hit, or a reckless acrobatic attempt manages to land without injury.

Personal history

Tilly doesn't have much memory of true family. From an early age she has had to fend for herself on the streets of the Rustles. Preferring to avoid direct confrontations due to her diminutive size and strength, she developed skills of stealth and speed to compensate. She's generally cautious and slow to let her guard down, but a few people have become her trusted friends in their mutual quest for survival. She is devoted to Nanna Hellen, the closest thing she has had to a maternal figure in her life, and would do anything the woman asks to show her gratitude.

Education

No formal education. Tilly has learned what she knows through curiosity and keen observation.

Employment

Tilly never has had an official job. She has lived mostly by scrounging for food and discarded "treasures," but will also run errands to earn a few coin. Most recently, she has become a "lantern lighter," helping people escape on the underground railroad.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Found her greatest "treasure"--a shortbow with a broken string--when scavenging around the guardhouse as a child. Over time she figured out how to restring and use the weapon with fairly consistent accuracy. This is an accomplishment she is secretly very proud of.

Failures & Embarrassments

Once she found an object that she thought was a special type of helmet. It was made of metal--discolored and pretty banged up. She put hours into smoothing and polishing it only to discover after wearing it in public that it was a bed pan.

Tilly tends to be quick-minded, alert and always taking in information, but doesn't rush to conclusions, preferring to make sure she has all she needs to know first.

Morality & Philosophy

Tilly has long been aware that Dopheen laws don't reflect her personal values. She believes the greatest evil in the world is the oppression of others, and would have no qualms doing whatever it takes for the survival of herself and those she cares about. She has a soft spot for those in need, and will sacrifice to help those less fortunate than herself. While she doesn't enjoy violence, she employs it as a practical necessity.

Tilly likes new and interesting items and finding new ways to use the "treasures" she finds. She also likes intricate plans and enjoys when her friends suggest clever ways to accomplish a task. She dislikes mindless sheep who follow orders without considering the implications of their actions, and despises those who enjoy wealth and power at the expense of others. She also dislikes cheese.

Tilly is very loyal to those she has deemed worthy of her trust. She will fight to the death to protect those she cares about. She is generally unselfish and will share what little she has with those in need.

While not bloodthirsty, Tilly does not like to leave witnesses alive. She will hold a grudge with a vengeance, is slow to give second chances, and will never give a third.

Hygiene

She does her best to try to keep herself and her belongings clean but realizes it's a lost cause. She often has smudges of dirt on her face and clothes, picking up the dust and grime from her many hiding places. She's definitely a tomboy, but secretly longs for pretty things and perfumes, and would most likely try to swipe them if she ever has the chance.

Tilly is a bit of a "collector," picking up random items that might be useful in the future. Since she doesn't have a home of her own, this hobby hasn't escalated into hoarding, but it could if she had enough space.
