Maiden Voyage

What a waste of my goddamn time.
 
Gregor and Sashi pull me out into the middle of the desert. No food, no information, just "worth my while".
What a spectacular lie that was.
 
Some caravan got lost in the "shifting sands" and that weasel Kempt left. Our best man, our deadliest weapon, gone.
 
Had I not intervened he would have slaughtered Gregor and then been slaughtered himself. A shame, really. I wish I spilled his blood in the dunes.
 
Those 2 unfortunate caravan riders never stood a chance against me. Now Gregor says we need to go into the sands to recover all the arms.
 
"We'll bury them if we have to" he says. We'll see about that.
I'm not sure what their ultimate plan is, but I know that if they end up dying it'll be no skin off my back.
 
I will be sad, however.
 
Ever since that fateful day I lost my life, these fools are the closest things I've had to a friend.
They may do nicely on the open sea.
Sashi has impressive cunning, and Gregor is stalwart and strong.
 
They've promised me a ship, and I bartered an extra 50% on top of it.
 
I'm not sure who I'm writing this to, to be honest. I hope 1 day my old crew reads it, and understands my torment.
 
I know this metal body is the price I pay for my betrayal. For my greed. For my ambition.
I long for the days of the open ocean, feeling the salt on my face and the wind at my back.
 
Those were truly better days.
I hope they know how much I regret what I've lost.
 
But I will raise my sails once more. I will find them.
I know I will.
Why else would I have risen from abyss.
