The merchants of Esperanto brought catalytic change to the medieval world, not only with their magitech but also with their influence - undreamt luxuries, a new language, conflicting ideals, but most importantly, demands that would undermine the magocratic traditions of Narekha. To a world where mastery of magic and its widespread use was sacrosanct, this was an issue that couldn't simply be smoothed over. Despite the increasing resistance to Esperanto influence, the High King of Narekha issued decrees to effectively begin dismantling the magocracy.
Reactions among the peasantry were blurred but among the nobles, it was almost universally hostile. Many voiced their discontent but were met with stony silence. This drove many to consider options previously unthinkable and Ashtaspa was no different. Full of fiery, youthful passion, she met with the forming Black-Horn movement and pledged her service to it should a revolt break out against the High King and his Esperanto backers. This would happen following an incident in capitol which led to a coup by the Black-Horns, who deposed the king and established the Black-Horn Confederacy in 741.
After this revolutionary blow and the disappearance of the royal family, the new Black-Horn government sought to purge Narekha of all Esperanto influence and this is where the world began to descend into a dark, violent spiral. The scale of the fighting grew as well as its intensity, with the Black-Horn army being forced to withdraw to the Narekhan highlands where they fought the Armada to a standstill for the next decade. Ultimately, the Union's vast resources and a change in strategy would overcome the defenders and quite a few - including Ashtaspa - would be captured to be sent to Hejmen.
Appearance
Physical Description
Ashtaspa stands relatively shorter than the average nanny (minus the horns), and is of a fairly trim build that belies her considerable strength.
Body Features
Besides her obvious goatish features, Ashtaspa has a long, flowing white mane that she's quite proud of yet doesn't really style. Usually, she'll let it flow unkempt and free beyond a basic brushing to keep knots and tangles from getting too severe. The way she sees it, there isn't much point to styling her mane when most of her time is spent in battle.
Identifying Characteristics
Other than the horizontal pupils and cleft hooves that define a goat's apperance, the odd upwards curl of her horns and white hooves with socks are her most stand-out characteristics. Ashtaspa is especially proud of her horns, seeing them as an essential part of what makes her a goat.
Apparel & Accessories
Not having much of a wardrobe on an unfamiliar planet, Ashtaspa usually wears a basic outfit more befitting a commoner than a noble paired with salvaged scale mail armor. Always at her side is her trusty spellbook and a unique shortsword taken from the Lark family crypt, the Sword of Tyrant's Bane, which has faithfully served her in her travels.
Mentality
Education
Ashtaspa learned her magical talents under the tutelage of a draconic scholar-baron alongside reading and writing, and her martial training from her father, Vahram.
Failures & Embarrassments
Ashtaspa sees the loss of the war for Narekha's independence as one of her greatest personal failings, having given it her all only for the effort to be futile.
Mental Trauma
Ashtaspa has seen much in her time with the Black-Horns, and done even more.
person.sexuality
Ashtaspa is a straight female goat.
Known Languages
Ashtaspa understands both Esperanto Common and the ancient Terran language.
Personality
Motivation
With no home to return to and a cause that has all-but-vanished, Ashtaspa's primary goals are staying free from Esperanto captivity but beyond that, she hasn't planned that far. She lets the Fates guide her path for now.
Savvies & Ineptitudes
If there was anything she was exceptional at, it would be magic. The Arcane tradition is her specialty, and the depth and breadth of her knowledge in the field can be surprising. The Occult tradition is foreign to her, but not too difficult for her to understand. Ashtaspa is also remarkably athletic, augmenting her skill as a mage with a fighter's prowess. When it comes to anything that promotes clever words over violence, however, she struggles and prefers to leave it to others more skilled.
Likes & Dislikes
One of her strongest passions is the magical arts, and she could talk at length for many hours about the subject if she were prompted. Thus, any attempt to suppress magic elicits a strong response from her. Beyond that, Ashtaspa enjoys spending her downtime losing herself in a good book or regaining her focus through physical exercise. While she does enjoy a rousing night of board games when there isn't anything else to do, she doesn't like playing games of chance as much, something about "not being particularly lucky."
Virtues & Personality perks
Even if she can't (or won't) outright say it, Ashtaspa cares deeply for her friends and is protective of those she cares about. She doesn't like it when they risk their lives foolhardily, and will voice her displeasure for such an approach. She also takes her oaths and loyalties very seriously, and would rather die than to betray either.
Vices & Personality flaws
Ashtaspa can be a difficult person to get along with - outside of a confrontation, she is often cold and blunt. In a scrap, she is hot-blooded and vicious. Violence is second-nature to her, and she doesn't easily see the diplomatic solution to a problem. When it comes to the Armada and the Universal Union, it takes great restraint for her to not make her distaste very evident.
Personality Quirks
Despite her gruff and at times brutish exterior, that façade chips a little when she gets to indulge in high society finery. Though directed along the path of a fey-at-arms, Ashtaspa can feel right at home at a feast, ball, or manning the rumor mill.
Hygiene
Ashtaspa does her best to keep up with her hygeine, bathing regularly and keeping her clothes clean. After years of roughing it during her time fighting the Armada, she isn't as averse to roughing it as she otherwise might be.

Religious Views
Like most fey in Hanaq, Ashtaspa believes in the cycle of reincarnation but with a Narekhan bent: fate and destiny play a very strong role in the spirituality of the Ruminants of that world, with there not really being any well-defined gods. The Fates dictate what is meant to happen, and it is pointless to act against it, as what is fated to happen will happen regardless of how much one struggles to prevent it. Thus, one lives to fulfill their fated purpose to break free of the cycle of rebirth.
