Mentality

Personal history

Lucius was born to Juliana Lucilia and Gaius Florus Petronius, two soldiers who served with Emperor Titus Cicero back when he was still a Centurion. The two continued to work at Titus Cicero's side even when he staged a coup, slaughtered the entire Western Elysian royal family, and had the military crown him Emperor. Being raised by parents with such devotion to his cause, it was no wonder that Lucius originally followed in their footsteps.
Lucius was once a young man with a strong nationalist streak who believed everything Emperor Titus Cicero said--and, therefore, the Empire itself--was righteous and in the name of Cingi, the god his supporters followed. It wasn't until a string of situations occurred that his entire perception of the world changed. The most groundbreaking being meeting Lydia Danvers, his half-Fae ancestor over two centuries his senior.
 
Before Lucius met Lydia, he had thought he was fully human. He had also been surrounded by people who knew nothing about Fae cultures or the truth behind their existence. It was Lydia who taught him how to speak Elvish and Sylvan, how to find signs from the gods and survive in the wilderness, and took him to Sylvia in order to experience what the Empire was truly like to outsiders for himself. The people of Sylvia and the surrounding republics opened his eyes to a new world--one where people could be free to choose their own laws and live without fear. It was then that he discovered what the Empire's existence actually brought about. Rather than justice and peace, they were a nation of violent imperialism bent on forcing the weak to obey a ruler who cared little outside of his own palace.
 
Lucius now uses his job as a courier and speculator to access, kill, and/or steal any information or worthy assistance he can find on his quest to revolutionize the Empire. It is his dream to topple the monarchy and establish a government ruled by the people, such as in Edhelest and Tamluk. To achieve that end, he is willing to bloody his hands, sully his name, even crawl through sewers if he has to, and he would gladly do so himself instead of the allies he truly cares for.
 
Cassia and Lexus are Lucius's "childhood friends," though the two consider him more of an annoying nuisance than a friend. Lucius has a terrible tendency of sticking to people he likes, which usually means he finds them entertaining to tease or easy to get under their skin. The people he likes the most are probably the ones who want him farthest away from themselves. Despite this, he does his absolute best to support the people he's accepted as worthy and respects their abilities. He is not above asking even past enemies to join his ranks as long as they support his vision. However, he is also quick to promise a swift death to anyone who stands against him, even if that happens to be his own family or past friends.
