Appearance
Physical Description
A heavyset muscular man with black, flowing locks and a gut to be proud of.
Facial Features
His beard is surprisingly well-kempt for one out at sea for so long.
Identifying Characteristics
He bore a tattoo on his left pec, a strange, tribal-esque black marking with various dots and dashes. The circle comprised two raindrop shapes, the black on the bottom and the top untouched to reveal his bare skin. On the waxing and waning parts of the drops were a twin pair of thin fins facing their respective colors. Or maybe they resembled more like the crests of waves. A black theropod footprint sat at the tip of the hollow aspect while the bottom portion was inked entirely except for a human handprint, pointing opposite the theropod print. A black, thin circle outlined the symbol while a ring of animal footprints followed the circumference. Various bird, mammal, amphibian, and reptile tracks made up the ring.
Along his arms, chest, and stomach are various tattoos celebrating his culture and accomplishments, with the big tribal rendition of a Dunkleosteus on his stomach what he is the second most proud of.
Apparel & Accessories
His grass skirt and sandals help him keep cool, and the turtle shell on his shoulder and the tooth necklace are fun accessories for him to show off.
What he holds the most important is the Manaiakalani hook, a Precursor artifact said to have been given to Māui himself.
Special abilities
Etara can talk to dinosaurs and prehistoric animals, and the hook allows him to magically manipulate winds and sea currents to sail to his liking.

Personality
Motivation
He loves sailing and the wide ocean, not content to stay in one place for so long and disillusioned with his people's decision to merely settle.
Virtues & Personality perks
Protecting the hook and upholding the good image of Māui is very important to him. Any minor disgrace will make him feel like a failure.
Vices & Personality flaws
He can be a bit of a showboat and eager to throw his weight around when challenged, but he loses some confidence without the Precursor hook.
