Gigwig the Goblin hails from the Monastery of the Broken Cauldron. Being somewhat lacking in the social graces, he makes for it in spades with enthusiasm. He's eager to learn, and desperate to prove himself on this journey, set upon him by his elders.

Personal history
Gigwig's monastery raised him from infancy, after his parents passed away in The War of the Small.
The monastery keeps, stores, protects, and pays respect to the weapons of heroes past, praying to the spirits of the warriors they represent.
They attempted to teach him their practice and philosophy of worshipping a warrior's spirit, as exemplified by the union of weilder and weapon, and the purity of self it brings.
Gigwig's interpretation of their teachings is that they pray to the weapons themselves, and that the only higher path is glory on the battlefield. He doesn't understand that this supposed glory is brought about through discipline and self-mastery.
This disconnect is why his elders have sent him out into the world, to discover outside the walls what he couldn't learn inside them.
