Tall for a halfling, claiming to be the (in)famous captain Thaddeas Nookington. Flamboyantly dressed with the viscious weapons often used in ship-ship combat and an air of arrogance, and a loud confidence in his abilities.

Appearance

Physical Description

A halfling of exceptional proportions. Tall, lithe and strong. He truly lives up to the legends of the name he claims.

Body Features

The scars of having spent a portion of his life in chains are obvious whenever his skin is exposed.

Facial Features

Somehow his face remains largely unscathed by the trials his body has endured. Though weathered by the sun and the salt tides, this only contributes to his rugged good looks. His face is always bright and friendly, drawing you in, though those who get close see a battle between the trials of a hard life and the natural love for existence of the halfling ancestry.

Identifying Characteristics

Scars of shackles on the wrists and deep, vicious scars on his back from the mark of a whip. A brand on the back of his left hand, showing him to be property, with the scar of a cross gouged through it.

Physical quirks

A nervous twitch around prisoners of any kind. An inability to face prisoners without shame for their predicament, particularly in the case of those who labour against their will. To be around prisoners for long (without the intention or ability to free them) leads to either a murderous rage or a deep depressive shame.

Semi-flamboyant silken pirate clothing, loose fitted for flexibility, but faded and worn from heavy exposure to sun and water.

Mentality

Personal history

Secretive about anything prior to his joining of the shackles, others are only aware of how he rose through the ranks to become captain and the acts of bravery leading to freed slaves. However, these stories seem to be full of inaccuracies and contradictions. Are these just the exaggerations and mismatched memories of a sailor, or is there something darker there?

Education

Simply educated. Though he excels at the areas of life he has experienced, it is clear he has had no formal training. He relies upon his own training methods and relies only upon himself.

Employment

Currently unknown. Thaddeas was the captain of a shackles anti-slavery ship, but having lost his ship he is seeking money to restore himself to his former glory.

Mental Trauma

A history of slavery has inflicted a fear (and staunch resistance) to ever being put in chains again. This extends to others. To be at the will of another, without the freedom to make his own choices haunts Thaddeas.

Intellectual Characteristics

Though not stupid, Thaddeas shows no particular ability intellectually. He deals with problems as they are presented, and he believes the best way to solve them is through hard work. The word genius may perhaps be extended to his fighting style, but no other area. Others would say his fighting style will lead to his early grave. The natural likability of halflings still persists around Thaddeas despite his arrogance, making many predisposed to show him favour in his social dealings. Those who don't, well Thaddeas earned the (in) part of (in)famous for a reason.

Morality & Philosophy

Slavery can never be tolerated. Almost any means is justified in the pursuit of freedom from slavery and from unjust rulers. Almost everything else pales in comparison to this driving philosophy. Quick to anger, and more likely to negotiate from behind a point makes this a key fact to bear in mind for those who cross his path. Outside of these situations, a natural halfling mirth pervades his being, though something of his years in slavery haunt him.

"Flavour of the week" is the best way to describe his sexuality. Thaddeas does not partake in the standard bard's "screw anything that moves" philosophy. However, as a "gentleman" he understands the importance of a "positive" attitude to all, though his preference for any gender has never been revealed.

To prevent and free other from the chains that bind them is all that matters in life. Although, it is best if you can face such darkness with a smile and a laugh. The past constantly tries to drag him back to the darkness and hopelessness of his early years in chains, but now he is driven by the knowledge that metal is best for breaking chains.
