Lyra is clearly someone who is important to Smirnoff, he hasn’t elaborated who she exactly is but he has divulged that if he has a bounty on his head then Lyra would have one too and hers would be bigger than his.
 
She has mentioned being an adoptive sister to Smirnoff and that he helped her escape from her home.
Smirnoff left with her to find more information about the Kraken Society with her and to protect her
