A sheltered young man from a noble family of aasimars, Cyprian has been raised with ideals of duty and filial piety, but he longs for great adventures and true friends to share them with.

Cyprian is the youngest scion of House Patros. Blessed centuries ago by the gods, House Patros is known for producing aasimars, which has made their progeny valuable commodities. Patros children are pledged young to various institutions – religious orders, city councils, arranged marriages with other wealthy families – where they are prized for their celestial gifts and the insights of their deva guides. In return, the Patros’ accumulate powerful allies. Cyprian is approaching the eve of his twenty first birthday, when he will leave his family to join his pledge, the Order of the Golden Lion, worshippers of Torm.
Cyprian has led a sheltered life awaiting this moment. As the last of his parents’ children, he has largely been kept hidden away in the family manor for his own protection (and to increase his value to pledge bidders). His contact with others is limited to his family, his tutor, and Adron, his deva. But Cyprian’s imagination is boundless, and escapes the walls of his home through the stories he reads about great heroes and their adventures. And in his dreams Adron hints that he is meant for more than trading the prison of his childhood home for that of the Golden Lion -- someone in the celestial planes has their eye on him...
