Personal history
Jethro and his family were traveling through the desert and were waylaid by bandits. They defended themselves but his parents were struck down and he was captured. The following night he was able to escape into the desert. After days of stumbling through the desert and suffering survivors’ guilt, he was close to giving up.
A psychopomp named Monnik came to collect his spirit but sees that he has potential. Instead of bringing him to the boneyard Monnik gruffly tells Jethro that he needs an assistant to carry his staff and brings him along shepherding spirits of the dead to the boneyard. Monnik appears grumpy but is softhearted for a psychopomp he takes time to comfort those who he shepherds and favors persuasion when convincing the less willing spirits.
Jethro then joins a group called The Masked, a group of mortal adventurers that would collect the spirits of those who would stave off death through unnatural means. These undead were often difficult for Mordos and his divine servants to reach because of the limits of the second pact. Mortals that lack divine power could go places and interfere without breaking the rules of the pact.
Jethro was given the title of ______ by his fellow Masked as he took after Monnik in preferring persuasion to bloodshed. Jethro still carries Monniks staff to this day as a token of the authority he holds as a member of the Masked.
