Rumble came to be when the building he was working in was accidentally triggered for demolition. As the building collapsed around (and on top of) him, the floor gave way to a secret sub-basement. Illegal chemicals had been stored here, and their containers were crushed in the collapse, making a chemical goop that Mike stewed in for a couple of days, unconscious. When he awoke in the darkness, he had lost track of where he was. He began to push his way out, and with a mighty rumble, he pushed his way out of the demolished building. It was night when he emerged, but his foreman, Derrek, was still there and was shocked to see Mike, even though Mike wasn't exactly like he was before. Mike was now huge, almost twice as tall as he was before and solid muscle. Derrek help Mike setup a location on the work site, where he could stay out of sight, while they figured out what to do.
