Wolf-blooded Occult Investigator protecting first responders from a world they refuse to acknowledge
I was born in Arendal, Norway in the summer of 1997. My twin brother Alexander “Xan” and I were inseparable through our formative years and high school. Among our friends and family, Xan was known as the Brains and I was known as the Brawn. Xan was the only reason I managed to graduate high school, always watching out for me and “saving me from myself,” as he often put it. On the flip side, God help you if you messed with Xan, as more than one unfortunate bully discovered. I would end you. Our parents died tragically during our junior year of high school, under very unusual circumstances. The case was never solved.
After graduation, we left Arendal for London, England, where Xan had earned a full scholarship to study Criminology at Cambridge University. I worked two jobs to put food on the table and a roof over our head while Xan immersed himself in his studies. During Xan’s sophomore year at the University we became obsessed with the supernatural after learning of a series of tragic deaths very similar to our parents. We spent the next two years hunting those things that go bump in the night. Xan continued pursuing his degree, taking on a minor in Occult Studies, though his progress was markedly slowed due to our extracurricular activities.
At the conclusion of the two years, an intriguing woman named Marietta Stark took an interest in Xan and me after encountering us in the university library. She had one of those ageless faces, but her eyes, though blind, reflected a very old soul. Marietta lifted the veil from our eyes. She recognized us instantly as “hunters,” and was very forthcoming about the existence and danger of the supernatural. We later learned Marietta had another name, Parts the Veil, and was Uratha, a werewolf, and a member of the Lodge of the Shepherd. She informed Xan and me that we were Wolf-blooded, meaning we had a trace of Uratha blood within us. Under her tutelage, our indiscriminate hatred of all things supernatural was tempered. We learned we were part of an ancient bloodline often tasked with keeping the balance in the supernatural world. While Xan remained neutral, I developed a deep respect for the Uratha and longed to become one of them, though I was told it was rare for a Wolf-blooded to undergo the Change. I would have to settle for one day becoming a Uratha mate, and possibly bearing Uratha children. We studied under Parts the Veil for a year, until she was called away on other Uratha business.
Then six months before Xan’s anticipated graduation, he disappeared one night after leaving me a voicemail saying he thought he had found a fresh lead in our parents’ case. Devastated, I used all the resources available to me to try and find my brother. I even inserted myself into the local police department as a consultant, an Occult Investigator, so I could have police resources at my disposal.
Within a month, Parts the Veil returned, urging me to change my name and leave town. She believed my brother’s disappearance might have been related to the fact we were Wolf-blooded and I would be the next target. Her Lodge had been actively investigating the disappearance of several Wolf-blooded in the area. She told me of a Uratha pack in Haven Falls, New England she wished to place me under the protection of. At first, I staunchly refused to leave, feeling I was abandoning my brother, but Parts the Veil assured me it was only temporary. Her Lodge was very close to finding the answers they sought, and hopefully my brother as well. Eventually, I surrendered to her wisdom and packed my bags.
In Haven Falls, I adopted the alias Dani Winchester, and immersed myself in my new life, becoming a consultant for the Haven Falls Police Department. To my delight, one of the Uratha pack responsible for my protection has taken a personal interest in me. His human name is Jensen, and we have been dating for several weeks now. I haven’t heard from Parts the Veil recently, which worries me. I am beginning to feel the need to return to London.
