High Lord Kalanor is a skinny man, he's very thin for his age and height. Some have commented that he doesn't eat because he's constantly pouring over ledgers and tariffs for use on the river.

High Lord Kalanor has distinctive spiral patterns on his horns, which gradient from a light purple down to a purple similar to his skin tone.

Personal history

High Lord Betham Kalanor ascended to High Lord when he was 44 in 1157 EOS. Known as an upstart lord, he already had a reputation for business deals as his mother High Lady Kalanor had granted him the job of business and economic adviser for their family's investments. As the "High Lord of the River", he expanded Kelathar's hold on shipping on the Cultivation and Hjord Rivers, so that all trade on them belong to him, his nobles, or his merchants.



In more recent years, High Lord Kalanor has taken a step back from the control he use to hold on his House's lands, instead giving some power to his vassal lords. The High Lord has recently become aware that he's aging, and has decided to focus more on his family, and ensuring that his adopted daughter Symera (the High Lord never married) is ready to take his place once he is gone.



In 1173, High Lord Kalanor was informed that one of his vassal lords Sobrizal has been murdered, and his manor burned to the ground. Suspecting one of Sobrizal's unsavory associates (and he had many of those) had finally turned on the man, the High Lord sent investigators to question the Lord's staff. After finding out a group of adventurers who were not from the city might have been involved, he sent his guards to gather the group (party?) and interrogate them himself. High Lord Kalanor met the adventuring party, and was given information that they were Sobrizal's new body guards, but a rebel/cult/bandit group known as the Tarotics had stormed the manor in the middle of the night, intent of killing the Lord and freeing their leader's sister from his clutches. After collecting the story, he let the party go, and told one of the party members to head for Kholinar, since High Lord Kholin still kept Knights of the Ardentia at his palace.
