His broodwife and children were taken and killed by a Sahuagin raid leaving him a broken and vengeance fueled man. The kindness and freedom offered to him and even the intervention in his desire to give into that vengeance has helped Jareg to pursue a different focus. in view of this he has sworn an ancient oath, to protect and serve the light that inhabits the world. Given new purpose Jareg presses forward, grateful for those who freed him.

Jareg had survived Sharkfeather Reef reborn as a new warrior. He made an Oath to protect the Light that exists in nature. In his efforts to fight back and destroy the Sahuagin that threaten that light. Jareg found a portal that took him to the Feywild. Surviving thanks to the spear gifted him. He left the feywild with a new spiritual outlook on life. And now sees that Valcore Czar is a man who made an oath, but is no longer powered by that oath. Has decided to take it upon himself to help Valcore find his oath again.
