A roommate/squatter/possible freeloader above Orsaba's Fine Imports, Sylvia "Sly" Boots is by trade, a professional thief and burglar. One of the original hires by the Rolling Stone Trading Company, Sly accompanied the likes of Fiego, Lyra, Bryseis, and Skorg as they delved into the Orc caverns to prevent a plot to flood Lyra's village. Sly, who had mostly worked alone, was at first impatient and incredulous at her compatriots. She found Skorg loud and boastful, Bryseis absent-minded and clumsy, Fiego arrogant and insufferable, and Lyra... Lyra was almost too quite for her. Her surly behavior often left her sleeping further away from the others, yet through trials, hidden dangers, near death circumstances, and through harrowing combat, she found herself rallying to the others, if anything just to stay alive.
This culminated in a horseback chase through the forest as the group of heroes had one last chance to stop an evil cult from setting off the device that would flood Lyra's home village. The device destroyed, the cultists dead, the group celebrated at Lyra's home and honored her fallen mother.

It was there that Sly ran off as the mourners spoke at length of Lyra's beloved mother. It would be Skorg of all people who would suss out Sly's reason for disappearing. That her drive to survive at such a young age, made her forget the names, and even faces of her parents. It was something she didn't realize until just then. And though she won't admit it, the gap in her memory still pains her.
Now, Sly resides with Lyra, the two on friendly terms as roommates living in the Trading District. Sly appreciates a chance to live under a roof for once, and to have an actual friend who won't cut her throat.

Appearance
Apparel & Accessories
In true thief fashion, Sly tends to move around while wearing a cloak with an attached mask to hide her face.
Specialized Equipment
Also like any good thief, Sly comes fully equipped with all manner of weapons and items. Her trusty medium crossbow is slung behind her back for easy access. While a small, more discrete hand crossbow is holstered at her hip. A shortsword and sheath is drawn across the small of her back, above her tailbone. While two daggers are stashed away in hidden sheaths, one on each calve near her boots.
Speaking of boots, Sly is amassing quite a collection as she has a pair of False Tracks Boots, and another that allows her to easily walk across any length of rope; a present from the legendary Black Betty aka Rose Morningbend aka Lyra's neighbor. A pair of Night Goggles are also usually slung around her neck, should she work in dark places.
As for her trusty lockpicking tools, she usually keeps them in the inner sleeves of her inner wrists. And though you my never know, her hands are snugly covered by an invisible pair of Thief's Gloves.

Personal history
Though she makes her home in Waterdeep, Sylvia "Sly" Boots is not a native Waterdavian. Her home, including her real name, and the names of her parents, were lost as she spent much of her young life in animal-like survival, stealing just so she wouldn't starve.
It wasn't until she met the infamous Batron, known in more shadowy circles as "The Prince of Cats," that she was offered a chance at a better life. Her desperate thieving was honed into the master burglary skills of a burgeoning professional. For a time, the two lived as master thief and apprentice and Sly was happy, especially after taking down one mark after another. The kind of greedy, pompous, stuffed shirts who she remembered being responsible for her hometown's destruction, her parent's deaths, and her hard life until now.
But even though it was those greedy, pompous, noble types who had the most coin, the flashiest jewelry, and the most precious of artifacts, there were rules in the thieving world. Now granted, these rules would shift, warp, and change from guild to guild, and even from thief to thief, but one rule was always golden...
"We're just in it for the coin."
After years of thieving across the Sword Coast, Batron and Sly made their way to the distant mining colony of Bhim Boldar for a rest and a post-job drink. It was there that Sly saw the abject squalor the dwarven miners lived in and learned from loose tavern talk that the mine's foreman, one Bulwark Grimstone, withheld payments and taxed the people for "the sake of the mine." With old memories now raw in her mind, Sly struck out to rob Grimstone blind, only to find his secret ledger, proving his greed at the expense of the village. Sly bought the ledger to the elders, who stripped Grimstone of his title, family name,
, and quite literally rode him out on a rail.
Though Sly received many handshakes, and clasps on the back, and called a hero to all dwarvenkind, her victory came at a cost. For Batron, the closest she had to family, was gone. Upon breaking the golden rule of the thieving arts, about making it more than just filling one's pockets, she was abandoned for her act of selflessness. Dejected and heart-broken, she left Bhim Boldar in the night, just as they were preparing a celebration in her honor.
Accomplishments & Achievements
A crackshot with her cross bow, Sly has gotten the killing shot on a number of dangerous foes. Namely, she put a bolt between the eyes of Gog, Skorg's full Orc cousin, and even snatched away his deadly sword (she eventually gave it to Skorg, right after Fiego paid her to do it).
Recently, she nicked (or at least nicked back) a series of idols from a less than reputable noble family. She made the decision to return the idols to their proper place, free of charge.
Failures & Embarrassments
Xion's master got the drop on Sly when they went out of the city for a mission. Sly is still pretty sore about that.
Intellectual Characteristics
She tends to keep a low profile about herself, especially when she's working. Because of this, she has a short fuse when it comes to unprofessional behavior. Generally, she tries to maintain a cool, calm, almost sardonic demeanor in most situations.
At her worst, Sly can come off as snarky, flippant, and downright surly in the worst of instances, often saying things she may later have to take back. At the absolute worst though, her thieving instincts kick in and she might just disappear.
Morality & Philosophy
Despite her practice, Sly does have a personal code. She won't steal from those who can't afford it. However, that doesn't apply to nobility, who she holds in low regard.
