Personal history

Sam grew up in the Sufic region, raised briefly by parents who were ousted from higher society due to supporting the wrong side of an attempted coup. Given up by the family to monks, he grew up with a strong distaste for religion but a powerful affinity for the martial arts training he was given. Eager to try out his training he got into underground fighting, piling up considerable debt because although he won his fair share he got very cocky and lost several bouts in a row betting considerable amounts on himself. Cast out of the monastery for his foolish misuse of his prowess, he sought to earn it all back in the gladiatorial pits of Ash Hill in Appolonia, but alas, it was not to be...
