He’s a tight ass but reliable. Took to the life of a noble with much more grace than I did, and even though he isn’t a prince, he definitely carries himself like one. I think he loved mom, but not in the same way I did. They clashed because mom brought chaos when all Roderick wanted was a little bit of normalcy, but officiating his wedding was a big step in the right direction for them. Appearance wise, I was born with more of the Greacion features of our mom, and he was born with more of the Germanic features of our dad.

A gaslighting gatekeeping girlbossing wine mom for the ages! Here’s the thing: We’ve put this woman through so much weirdness. All she wanted was a house in the hills with her handsome prince, but her husband works around the clock keeping up the family lie, so she’s quite a bit sick of our shit. A good mom, but not so much a good person. I’m just waiting for one fight to go so far out of hand, it irreparably splits our family forever.

I’ve never met her because she was born after I had left.
 
I was born Basil Crowburn, and I bare the tattoo of a raven which denotes my royal family, as all of us - say for Chloe - do.
 
There has never been an oracle of Zheenkeef quite like my mom. I think our Mother of Madness blessed her with a semblance of sanity unlike the other Profits. She was spontaneous and enthusiastic, but for the most part lucid. My dad, sick of his own nobility, had a thousand reasons to fall for her when he did. He was a worshipper of Tinel, and with a laugh, he’d claim their merrage would be better than that of the gods. As a younger elf, he’d slip out of his home under cover of night, and dance with her until dawn, drunk out of his mind. She was only just a priestess then. It’s stories like those that keep me from hating the old man.
 
We felt different amongst Sarcystle’s nobility: My brother and I are the only two children in the Crowburn family when the minimum in Sarcystle is five; my brother is a sorcerer, blessed with power over the storm after mom had made her journey out to the Alfvén — A remarkable feat, though quite unnecessary for a noblewoman to endure; and finally, our mom was a Profit. She had deemed herself so after her death-defying adventure. I admire this woman in every fiber of my being. She was the precious jewel of our family.
 
Death took her five years ago, days after officiating my brother’s wedding to Helen. She passed in her sleep, and Zheenkeef help us if we could ever find out why. We all coped in our own way: My dad locked himself away for days on end, Roderick did the same by traveling far into the wilderness to strengthen his storm magic, and I started a love affair with Helen. My brother will never know, and the question of Chloe’s true parentage has weighed on me for years. I try to push it from my mind whenever possible.
 
Fast forward some weeks, when I found myself endlessly curious about how my dad spends his time. I journeyed into his study to find necromantic runes, and spent days piecing together his plan to bring my mom back from the dead. I was disgusted, because even though necromancy is common practice in Sarcystle, I did not - and still do not - believe she could ever be returned to the way she once was. I wish so badly that I was able to confront him, but When I made it to his dwelling, I found it empty. After some investigation, I found mom’s grave disturbed, and was able to piece together that he had made off with her body.
 
I presented my brother with the evidence, and was able to convince him. We agreed that he - as the more charismatic one - would have to stay and protect the family name using an array of deceptive magics. My gift of prophecy (Divination Wizard’s Portent ability) would protect me, and with enough time and practice, I’d be able to track him down with ease. So Roderick is back in Sarcystle, and I travel with another identity, that of Dimitri Markov.
 
I’ve been searching for four years now, and enjoy being someone else a lot more than Roderick enjoys being me. As Dimitri, I get to add a little chaotic spice to the world with my magic. It has been some time, and I’m starting to lose hope that I’ll ever find him, but I’ve secretly decided that I want this life of a traveling adventurer, and so I’m not working as hard as I could, even though I tell Roderick that the work is tireless. Maybe I never will find my dad. Maybe I’ll become an oracle to be just like mom. Maybe I’ll die. The road ahead is long and ever changing, and we’re all just along for the ride.
