Socially inept, toy-obsessed gnome that pretends to be a strange child dressed as an animal. Desires an opportunity to further his knowledge of engineering and tinkering, but is unsure how to go about finding the opportunity.
Some Rock Gnomes enjoy the attention they can get while they entertain people with their clockwork contraptions. This Gnome was not one of them.
Instead, he preferred a life in relative seclusion away from the hustle and bustle of town. Though he wouldn't consider himself to be alone or lonely. His tiny creations kept him company enough.
Most of his day was spent working on these mechanical masterpieces, making them more lifelike or more useful with a dash of magic here and there. Tiny animals, mostly. Ones that he could control. They, in turn, became somewhat of a livelihood of sorts for him. After all, just because he lived outside of town didn't mean that he never needed to buy supplies.
When he did travel to town, however, he kept his distance from people that he didn't feel comfortable conversing with. To aid him in this, he always kept a special creation of his in his back pocket. The tiny, mechanical critter put out a rather unpleasant odor to keep the unwanted interactions at bay. That, along with the skunk-inspired outfit he put together allowed him to pass himself off as an odd, foul-scented child with a penchant for equally odd costumes. It wasn't as if he hated people, he merely didn't know how to interact with them. Even after watching people many a time from a distance, his lack of understanding for social cures lead to him being rather inept in conversations.
Generally, it did the trick for him. The shopkeepers he sold his little toys to never seemed to question where such a "child" would get such things. They, as well as the other vendors, simply wanted to get him out of their shops as quickly as possible.
It was a simple and mundane life for him, but he didn't mind. He had all he needed, and the adventures he could take in the with his little toys would be all he needed. Whether he was using them as part of his imaginative experiences, or using them to tease the lesser intelligent creatures, he took pleasure in his own creative freedom.
