Talen Faemenor was the youngest son of a minor Elven Lord. His father was an TreeShaper, an mage that used magic to grow and shape vallenwood trees into large ornate dwellings for Elven cities. His mother was immersed in Elven politics and ran the Province they controlled.
Talen’s natural intelligence and skill with magic was apparent from a very young age, and he was sent to Tower of High Sorcery for training as soon as his age was appropriate. He probably would have never left the tower again, studying Elven spellcraft and developing his skills, sequestered from the rest of his people, had the Elven nation not been invaded by an enemy they had thought long destroyed, the Dark Elves.
Seemingly overnight, the western boarders of Elven Nation were overrun with creatures of nightmare, and the entire populace was mobilized for war. Talen was still apprenticed to an Elven wizard named Dalamar who was assigned to a rearguard position, defending the only major bridge to span the massive River of Elliserin that formed the eastern border of the Elven nation.
The company Dalamar was attached to was quartered in the small town of Lyrandell, less than a quarter of a mile from the massive stone bridge. Talen spent the better part of two years in Lyrandell as the war raged, seemingly everywhere but his post. They were there to guard an important strategic position, but so far there had been nothing to defend against. In that the time the sheltered scholar became acquainted with the life of a soldier, practicing with swords and bows, and learning of the comradery that could exist between himself and his people.
When violence finally arrived in Lyrandell it was swift and brutal. The company fought valiantly but, they were severely overmatched, Talen watched helplessly as his friends, and everyone he had gotten to know over the past two years were massacred. In a final attempt to defeat their foes, Dalamar opened a webway, a forbidden form of magic that breached the very boundaries of existence.
The spell worked, but it worked too well, the dark elves and there monsters were sucked into the rift, but so was everything else, and that was the last time Talen had seen his homeland.
He also likes wine.
