The Serpent Tree was the holy and spiritual tree of the Wilde tribe. After the massacre committed by the Klosterban, the bodies were unceremoniously put into a mass grave at the serpent tree. The tree was then defiled and corrupted over the course of many years, because of the mass lingering anger and resentment from the spirits of the Wilde that knew no rest and only wanted revenge.
 
The tree eventually grew to become a physical host for the angered spirits and visibly mutated and changed. It's bark became filled with sores, pustules and fleshy appendages. It developed a sort of malign sentience and craved destruction. Where once dryads and pixies had tended to it and the surrounding land, now its former caretakers were corrupted and absorbed by it and it created wooden constructs that fed it blood and flesh so it could further grow its power and further corrupt and expand its domain. It also served as an anchor for the spirit host, allowing it to manifest their powers and extend control to the descendant in the village.
