Rycroft Gelimer of Lantan, served as an apprentice to the artificer Gerbo Garrick.

Originally hailing from Lantan, Rycroft Gelimer traveled Faerûn as an apprentice under the well-known artificer Gerbo Garrick. Gerbo was known for his unusual prototypes, which he always looked for excuses to test. Gerbo, with the assistance of Rycroft, would travel the globe on his airship The Powder Keg in search for the next place to test his latest inventions.
 
One day while back in Lantan to resupply, Gerbo heard word of the War of Many Arrows. Running back to The Powder Keg, bouncing with excitement, Gerbo found Rycroft finishing up loading the supplies and told him of the news. Excited with the thought of finally being able to test his new weapon, a device that used lenses designed by Gerbo to focus and control raw magic, Gerbo launched his ship and set course for Mithral Hall.
 
During the war Gerbo and Rycroft would set up the prototype weapon on the airship and launched massive blasts of energy into the horde of attacking orcs. Then at night they were hailed as heroes around camp fires. This lasted for weeks which gave Gerbo many chances to tweak and test out the changes to his weapon. Believing this recent adventure to be a success Gerbo was extremely pleased with himself, but unfortunately it didn't end pleasantly. One day while testing out the previous night’s changes the raw magic became very unstable and the prototype exploded, causing Gerbo who was operating the weapon to be blasted apart instantly while Rycroft who was off to the side badly injured. As the Powder Keg plummeted to the ground Rycroft was able to quickly strap himself down before eventually passing out.
 
Waking up weeks later, badly wounded but bandaged, the dread of what happened hit Rycroft. His entire life has been upheaved in an instant. During the release of raw magic throughout the ship and the following crash The Powder Keg and the possessions inside were destroyed, all except for one of Gerbo's cases. This case was heavily enchanted by Gerbo to be practically indestructible, which is why it survived but after being dead for a week the enchantments have worn off. This case was so important to Gerbo because he would keep the blueprints of his newest ideas inside.
 
Being seen as something of a hero during the war Rycroft was treated and allowed to stay inside Mithral Hall under constant care until he was well enough to continue his travels. Many of the followers of Gond chose to travel from settlement to settlement for work and Rycroft was no different. After a few more weeks his major wounds were healed and for the most part he was well enough to continue his travels. With horrible scarring, new set of clothing and tools given by the inhabitants of Mithral Hall, and the blueprints of the prototype that changed his life, Rycroft set out.
 
Rycroft would travel settlement to settlement looking for work primarily taking bounty missions, his primary knowledge was on the making and using of weaponry after all, he spent the next few years as a bounty hunter who didn’t mind taking an odd job every once and a while.
 
While in Baldur's Gate, with a very light coin purse, a rather simple job caught his eye. It was a simple job of riding with a caravan from Baldur's Gate to Calimport while acting as a guard, but what was so enticing was that part of the payment was in advance. So, Rycroft decided Calimport was nice this time of year.
