Personal history
Cybil Crownier. The fallen hero. The Exiled one. The inner demon. All correct names.
Born into the world to two that were living barely by what they could scrounge together, they were on the outskirts of Laelon just outside of the public eye hidden in a secret village. Beautiful wings of silk and a golden crown, she was a beautiful Aasimar. In a kingdom ruled by the patriarchy that hated magic, and any magical beings, it was clear they'd never be welcome into society. Perhaps this wasn't true elsewhere but the world is a small place to those that have experienced a lifetime of oppression. Cybil grew into a fit and athletic woman, knowing this life of misery her family endured had to have more. Once she was 17, and able to live by her own means she left her family promising to return a hero that changed everything. Maybe the people of Laelon would change their ideals and animosity if she could become one of them and earn the respect her those like her family deserved.
The Kingdom of Laelon isn't entirely full of people who hate magic though. Clayton Thorne was a peculiar man, it's through this military general that some magical creatures could go disguised through some trickery and deception and live a life there. On an expedition she came upon him and he knew he could earn a quick buck offering his services to the young woman. Cybil never truly knew what he did, but somehow he could mask her beautiful wings and golden crown, making her seem as if she were a normal Human. She's indebted to the man for what she assumed was his good nature, if truly she'd known he was just using side business to line his own coffers. Either way it was perfect, all she'd need to do was fake some documents and she'd be able to finally get what she wanted. Joining the military was easy with her connections, and she was quite adept after the brutal training.
It became clear soon that even in a place that had no magic, she wasn't equal. By nature of being a woman she was still discriminated against and treated like some piece of trash by many people, especially those in power. Mission after mission she accomplished under the guise of being "normal". It was a struggle to gain any recognition for her accomplishments, but respect came slowly. It was like Cybil was under a spell, obsessed with the idea that maybe she could be one of them and change everyone's perspective on her people and even of her gender. And soon enough she's sought after to join up with an élite group of soldiers. The Veijager. A death squad performing inquisitions upon those filthy mages and any magical beings. Against her morals she took part in their atrocities, maybe hoping she'd still be able to change things from the inside..
At least she was able to find a romance, Yitoshk was his name. A half-orc fellow that joined her band of death. She related to him her goals and aspirations for changing the future of this world. It was a blessing that distracted Cybil of the horrors she'd commit in the coming months. But as she drove further into her ambitions, Yitoshk started to grow distant.
Children, old men and women.. It was disgusting the amount of death that permeated the air after every crusade. Places burned to the ground, filled with the screams of innocents. She could even recall going out early on in her career to murder small families hiding in communities, it was disgusting to her. The only saving grace was that some were not as innocent, clearing her conscious in some regard. She was giving up her morals, her identity, and her freedom every step of the way to rising up, while taking the lives and freedom of those the Laelon's would consider worthy of their wrath. Cybil was lost in a sea of atrocities, losing hope that she'd ever be able to break this endless chain of violence and persecution. However, soon enough Cybil grew into the leader of the Veijager's. And under their command, the one now ordering everyone.
The people of Laelon soon saw her as a hero delivering righteous justice upon these disgusting heretics, casting aside her humanity for their society. Yitoshk, however, called her a monster. To him she was becoming the very thing she wanted to change and he was to leave and abandon the Kingdom of Laelon. One offer to leave with him was what he gave Cybil, the ability to give it all up and leave it behind, but inside she knew she was too far gone. Either she'd lose her humanity completely and become the monster she knew she was deep inside or change everything, and it was the price she was willing to pay to get that done. So he left, maybe she'd hear of her one day and find himself disgusted, but she had no more room in her heart to feel concerned with the notion of that. Praise for her "heroic" acts spread wide among the people. Spread so wide that in fact her own family heard of what was going on during the inquisition.
Cybil would lead many a crusade to the hidden villages containing small groups of mages and magical beings. They hid like animals cornered every time, but she knew exactly where to find them.Eventually the crusade brought her to her families hidden village. It was her hopes that maybe she could save them from the people under her command, but instead of listening, instead of fleeing with her they decided to take their own lives in front of her. Unable to bear the weight of bringing what they believed to be a monster into the world they took it upon themselves to end it on their terms. Cybil thought to herself often that maybe she was a monster, she was living her life until this point ruled by the society she so naïvely believed would change, a slave to her own stubborn dream.
Upon seeing this something inside her awoke. Wings exploded from her back, and her golden crown burst back into existence for the first time in years over her visage. The men under her command stood in awe as they saw this, and something even greater. For the first time Cybil swore to herself, no longer. No longer would she be ruled by this society. No longer would she be ruled by naïve dreams. No longer would she allow anyone or anything to chain her down.
"Freedom. I will live my life free from now until I die."
An energy from deep within expanded to envelop her very being, soon pulling itself out of her. Before the men stood a demonic presence, an inner spirit that embodied her very soul.
Once again the air reeked of death and carnage. But this time Cybil smiled, because this time it was truly her choice to kill someone. She didn't hate Laelon, nor the men she killed. Hatred for them or their kingdom would mean she was a slave to her emotions. No, they're put down for being as much a slave to the pecking order as she was. In the carnage one was left alive.
"Go, tell them all what you saw. I'm no hero, I'm what you all fear and hate. You and everyone else in this society are pathetic slaves. Let them all know that I'm truly free now" she said to the terrified man with glee and joy in her heart.
This marked the day that Cybil was known as a monster, the exiled hero.
While free, she did still need to live, and money is still important, so she set off to find a new means to live. This time, however, she would live this new life as she truly is inside. Stumbling upon the Klif Company mercenaries was a blessing, a perfect way to spend her time while she discovers more about her self, and sets anyone she sees as a slave held down by want, society, or themselves free.
